Since I can't post to the list that you posted to about Warren Ellis, I hope you don't mind me responding here. I know you were rather disturbed by one posters mentioning of Ellis' cam attempts and early LJ list adventures. What follows is a well known account of something that happened years ago while he still had his old Delphi forum open. It has been the topic of many inside jokes in the community of people who were fans of him before he went a bit weird.

Warren Ellis is well known for having attempted to get a cybersex chat going with at least one female fan. The fan's b/f was there at the time and while he was attempting to cyber with her and get her on webcam the b/f recorded the whole incident.

The text of the chat went around the old Delphi community and was posted to a website before Ellis managed to ask those in possension of the text to take it down. I think it still exists out there on a few computers but it's not something that people post in public due to not wanting to get Ellis on their case.

There have been other stories of him asking female fans to cam and or expose themselves, but none documented like the cyber incident. Some fans have willingly sent him topless photos as a gag as well, but that's not something you can blame on him.

At no time did you say a bad word about the man, instead you questioned the way one thing he is doing would be seen, and whether or not women wanted to be seen as needed a male to help them up in the industry. Fair enough discussion for a feminist board. The responses to your questioning by his faithful elite are slightly sickening and obnoxious.
Thanks for at least attempting to start an interesting discussion.

well, I guess they missed the point I wasn't questioning his motive, although, I could, instead, I was questioning the systems we have in place in our society.

I also think men helping women is wonderful, I wish more people in the position to do so did.
