Title: You love him, don’t you

Rating: PG

Pairing: Mainly Jack/Ianto

Disclaimer: Torchwood isn’t mine.
Spoilers: None

Jack was in his office, staring at the hand in the jar; The Doctor’s hand. He wasn’t sure what he wanted it to do. Wave? But he kept in, nonetheless. It made him feel connected to the doctor, and anything that did that was, in Jack’s opinion, worth keeping.

He thought about the brief time they had travelled together. Him, the doctor, and Rose, travelling through time and space. And although they were worlds apart, love was what Jack had to remember; what he held onto. The short time he’d spent with the doctor had been the best time in his life. And he’d give up everything (well, almost everything) in this life to go back to him. He loved him.

… … … …

Gwen had been watching Ianto for a while now. He was taking a break, sitting on the sofa. And for the past ten minutes, he’d been staring up at Jack’s office. He was thinking about how Jack had changed him and how he had changed Jack. Before Jack, there’d been Lisa, and yes, Ianto had loved her, but this thing with Jack seemed so different.

He would often find himself (as he did now) thinking about Jack. He couldn’t concentrate on his work. It was like he was back at school.

He was just getting ready to finish his coffee and get back to work when he saw Gwen begin to walk over.  She took a seat next to him.

“You love him, don’t you?” she said.

Ianto nodded.

“You want to talk about it?” she asked kindly.

… … … …

Back in his office, Jack was wondering what adventure the doctor was caught up in. And how long until his adventure brought him to Jack’s Cardiff.

Gwen knocked on his door, and entered. She sat on the chair opposite him and followed his eye line to the hand in the jar. Yet again, she found herself wondering why it was there. But that wasn’t why she was there. Not this time, anyway.

“You love him, don’t you?” she asked.

Jack nodded. “I love him, and I might never see him again.”

Gwen looked puzzled. “Why?”

“He could be anywhere. He could be in any time. He could be in another galaxy, another millennium, another dimension, as we speak.”

Gwen watched as Jack’s eyes remained fixed on the mysterious hand. “Jack, I was talking about Ianto.”
