Because I haven't written in sooooo long, I'm not quite sure this is what I was I was expecting to happen when I started this one!
This is my first Robin Hood fic, so I'd be interested to know what people think!
Title: Their place
Characters/Pairing: Allan/Will
Spoilers: None as such
Rating: PG-13
Set: Mid-series.
Summary: Allan and Will meet up in the forest. Again.
Their Place
He was sat leaning against the tree. He’d been waiting for Allan for a while. Allan wasn’t late, Will was just very early. The time he spent waiting at this spot in the woods was his favourite time of the week. Every time he heard the faintest sound that could possibly be mistaken for footsteps, his stomach would jolt, and he’d look round, hoping to see Allan. The excitement he felt at these false alarms was worth the extra hours he sat waiting.
Allan arrived as he said he would, and Will got to his feet. The two men walked, slightly faster than was usual, and wrapped their arms round each other.
“You’ve not been waiting long, have you?” Allan asked, feeling slightly guilty, but knowing that he was early himself.
“Not long at all.” smiled Will.
Allan thought to himself that next week he would arrive far too early, and then he could be the one waiting, for a change and to get some time to himself outside the castle, safe in the knowledge that Will wouldn’t be far away.
“Djaq knows we’ve been meeting.” Will stated. “She asked me if I was ‘off to meet our traitor again’.” Will felt a sense of warmth at the memory of her approving smile as she’d questioned him.
“Was she angry?” Allan inquired. It wasn’t often he liked to admit he cared what people thought, but he did admire Djaq.
“No, I don’t think she was. She told me to tell you that she forgives you and that you’re a good man.” The two men smiled at the message. “And you are, you know.” finished Will.
“Forgiven, or a good man?” asked Allan, knowing the answer before it came.
“A good man.” Will replied. As much as he loved Allan, and as much as he wanted to forgive him, deep down, he knew he couldn’t. It was a truth accepted by them both that Will wouldn’t be able to completely forgive Allan until he rejoined the camp.
“Why don’t you…” Will began, searching for the right words. “Why don’t you come and see everyone?” he asked, pleadingly.
Allan scoffed and put his hands on his hips, smiling at the suggestion. “I don’t think that’d be a good idea, do you?” he asked. “Really?”
“Well, if they could see that you are still the same Allan…” Will trailed off.
“Don’t you think that might be part of the problem?”
“Allan, they’d want you back. They would.” He said it with such strength that even he started to believe it to be true.
“Will,” started Allan, putting his hands on Will’s shoulders, “just because you want that to be the truth, it doesn’t mean that it will be.”
“We.. I want you back Allan.” said Will, building in volume. “We need you.” He stopped. “I need you, Allan.” he whispered, and rested his hands on top of Allan’s.
“Look, you know it’s not that easy.” Alan replied, dropping his hands to his sides. “I should really get back. Giz’ll get suspicious soon.” He made to walk off.
“I… I love you.” Said Will, and he turned and walked away, disappearing into the forest, back towards the camp he longed for Allan to rejoin.
Allan didn’t move, but stood, thinking to himself for a moment. “I love you too.” he said, quietly, so only he could hear it.
He wanted his old life back. That much he knew. But what worried Allan was that he wasn’t sure if he wanted that more than he wanted to know that Will needed him, when he wasn’t there.
He didn’t want to lose that.
AN: I'm not quite sure it turned out how I wanted it to, or how I expected it to. The end was a bit different to start with, but I'd be interested to know what people thought! Thanks!
