a rant...by yours truely.
Okay so i know i haven't posted in like a billion years but i've been really pissed off as of late and figured my live journal rants are not only educational but entertaining as well. (or at least i try to be....) so here goes:
the federal government is slowly but surely going to give me an anurizm (sp?) or atleast make me pop a blood vessel in my eyeball or something. I really begin to wonder how people actually get away with these things...I am flabbergasted. I have 4 main gripes (gay marriage, Sudan, immigration and the gulf coast).......but i will only really get into three because you'd have to be a retard not to know my position on gay marriage. and if you don't i'll send you my power point.
1. Sudan
genocide? what genocide? oh that over there in Sudan...thats nothing. OH look over there *points* pretty missing white girl (America's attention quickly shifts to ONE stupid white girl who gets lost on a vacation....whilst government sweeps the mass slaughter of non-arabs in Sudan under rug). Its Rwanda all over again. But why should we care, they are poor, from another country and most of all....not white.
2. Immigration
Okay okay folks quick history lesson. (maybe my next rant should be on under funding in our nations public schools....) Unless your family is 100% native american....at some point some one must have immigrated to the United States. Whether it be because of potato famine, religious persicution, genocide, smelly neighbors....they had to have come from somewhere else. And they came and they worked. Melting Pot....blah blah blash.
History lesson over.
Now....if your family immigrated 4, 40, or 400 years ago.....it does not matter. You are not special either way. You are not a better American, or more of a patriot. If i hear one more ignorant fuck "yell go back to your own country".....I will lose it. Go back to yours. These Mexican illegal immigrant workers that everyone seems to fear are an active contribution to the economy...and to get down to the nitty gritty they do the jobs that most people won't. They are trying to do what is best for themselves and their family. They are not taking your jobs. I repeat...they are not taking your jobs...or mooching the system. In fact, I know off hand quite a few people that are not mexican black puerto rican or which ever ethnicity you feel superior than.....that mooch just fine on their own...taking in more money from the government than these illegal immigrants will ever see and while they bust their asses every day...these mooches don't even lift a finger except maybe to shoot up.
And don't even try to blame this on national security. cause if i'm wrong please tell me...but I do belive that the asshats that drove planes into our buildings came into the US from Canada. Its plain and simple biggotry and racism.
Oh oh oh...and on a semi related note...bringing up that whole melting pot BS... I get really annoyed when people accept your culture (say like from another country) but have problems when another people tries to embrace theirs. For example...a woman I work with went on a tirade about how i didn't have on green on st. pattys day...and wasn't going out drinking and that i was a disgrace to my fellow irishpeople or whatever... and a couple months later went on a similar tirade about the puerto rican day parade and how they should.....wait wait its coming....
LEARN TO SPEAK AMERICAN!
at that point i tuned her out because well....i hate stupid people.... but do you see my point here?
And finally for those of you who live in the south west and texas areas. Don't tell the mexicans to go back from where they came from. why? cause you are living where they came from. again another history lesson...a good chunk of that area...yup...used to belong to mexico. but why are they so poor still after all this time? because they've been treated like shit and had their homes taken away since they end of that war until today.
3.The Gulf Coast
I'm not even sure I can even try and be funny here. This is a subject that has brought me to tears. It has been 9 months since the Hurricane completely destroyed New Orleans and the surrounding areas. And you must be thinking....oh well its not on the news anymore it must be going well over there. But its not. It's going about the same as it was 9 months ago actually. Absoultely nothing has been fixed, with the exception maybe of the French Quarter. While the poorer areas..Like the Ninth Ward and St. Bernard's Parish...(which coincindentally were the hardest hit) look like they did 9 months ago. It might as well have happened yesterday.
Meanwhile at the white house:
Bush- "Hey look -over there....MEXICANS they're taking your jobs!"
These people lost everything. EVERYTHING. those of you sitting comfortably at home and myself will never be even able to fathom such a loss.
There is no rush to rebuild the Ninth Ward, because many who lived there cannot afford it. And the government has no intentions of rebuilding it either. Well atleast not for the former residents. Professional Cocksucker Ray Nagin seems to have no problem with developers raping and pillaging the former residents of the ninth ward....by buying thier properties at a rate they'll take in the desperate situation they are in...and build luxury townhomes and condos in thier place.
After all the outcrying support for these people in september...october....all these people have all but dissapeared. Which is sad because of such an initial reaction i thought that the city would be back to normal in no time. But its not. not even close.
Anyone who knows me knows that this town...this area holds a special place in my heart. At 15 i was ready to pack up and move there without ever visiting. And its sad to see that Areas like the Ninth Ward and St. Bernards Parish are getting the shit end of the deal hear . Because frankly i think that these working class people give the city more character than a bead-wearing, drunken, topless sorority girl projectile vomiting on the side of a building on burbon street ever will.
