I really have to start putting longer entries here instead of Facebook! The last 2 weeks I have spent 4 nights ad 5 days each week in Melbourne. Volunteering for the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre to get their new building cleaned up and painted. A Candlelight Vigil for Reza Barati, the asylum seeker who was killed in the Manus Island 'Offshore Processing Concentration Camp", then a few days home, then a rally and march to free asylum seekers and end both offshore processing and mandatory detention. A couple of leisure days in Melbourne, where I went to VIctoria Market on the Sunday then on the Monday reacquainted myself with Sydney Rd (Coburg and Brunswick) where I hadn't really spent any time since I lived there when I was 19. Then the first introductory session of the new SMART (Self Management and Recovery Technology Project, which will hopefully end in a great website complete with videos that can be used by consumers experiencing psychosis, either on their own initiative, or with the help of a Treating Clinician. Missed the meeting on Wednesday about the new Mental Health Act because I got lost, first of all ending up at the wrong end of town, and then in the wrong street (Latrobe St instead of Lonsdale St). By that time it was too late to go there, so I caught the train to Southern Cross (stupid idiots aren't using the City Loop the way it was designed (with half the trains going each way) so I had to go to North Melbourne from Melbourne Central as there were NO TRAINS going to Southern Cross from there. Had some food and got drinks for the train, and then caught the Ararat train back to Ballarat. PIcked up the car there and then went to Kmart and Coles supermarket and then home by 11 pm. One VERY weary traveller, especially as all the wandering around looking for the meeting was done with an overloaded backpack on my back as well as my purple suitcase and a cloth bag with stuff I actually wanted access to on the journey home.
Tomorrow (Saturday) there is an Art/poetry/Aboriginal Elder/historical event 3 houses down from the General Store, and on Sunday I am going to do a market stall, something I have not done for way too long. Today and tomorrow I am getting stuff organised for it, and trying to find sticky labels to add prices, otherwise I will have to use bits of paper and sticky tape. As well as find things to sell, not a difficulty as I have a lot of stuff I don't really need, that I have hung onto until I can find a use for it, or find someone who needs it, so I can stock a market stall many times over. I also have to find some tables. I've found some info flyers for the second (FREE) table, some from legal aid, Office of the Public Advocate, ad Beyond Blue. It's going to be another good day, although I will try and find an umbrella and some plastic sheets just in case it rains a bit.
Time to start thinking about getting organised for some sleep= I'm not going to stay up til mmy usual midnight because I have been sleeping a long time since I got back from Melbourne and I need awake time during the day.
