[Wedding]

Upon arrival to Harwich guests are immediately ushered away from the town and cautioned not to make contact with any of the villagers for various reasons (none of which had to do with the fact that Jacky was a wanted criminal not only in Harwich but in all of England and that this was the 19th century where time travel wasn't even an idea for any ( Read more... )

[Posting in this section for close friends who want to visit with Jacky before the wedding. And of course, her brother to come calm her.]

Arche quietly opened the door and tip-toed into room where Jacky was preparing. She had the best of intentions and wanted to make sure that her best friend wasn't getting cold feet. Closing the door quietly behind her, Arche got Jacky's attention as she asked, "Everything going okay here, Jacky? You'd tell me if you need anything, right? Because otherwise, thing's are going A-OK!"

Jacky was anxious. That was an understatement. She was nervous, anxious, almost sick, and entirely unprepared. And those were just the things she could find names for to explain now. She was too stressed to come up with anything else. There was another thing now.

Jacky turned to look at her friend now, and smiled at her." I'm... a little nervous I suppose you could say," She told her.

Arche laughed and walked up to her friend with a smile, "It's okay. You love him. He loves you. Things will go off without a hitch or I'm fireballing whatever ruins it, I promise." The witch was confident about this wedding, and with good reason, "I believe that this entire day will be absolutely wonderful for you, but only if you can enjoy it. And you know why I believe it'll be just that awesome? It's because I know you and him are going to have the rest of your lives be filled with happiness and joy." She opened her arms to her best friend, offering a hug, and grinned, "I believe in this wedding because I believe in you two, okay?"

Jacky took a few deep breaths and hugged her friend tightly, smiling as she did. Arche's words had worked to calm her some. She was still nervous, but not nearly as much and a little more prepared now. She pulled away from the girl and nodded, still smiling. "This is going to work. I will be sure of it," She told her with a smile.

Shuraiya had been watching Jacky pace to and fro for the last fifteen minutes and it was beginning to make him more than a little agitated. He'd managed to distract Arche from fussing over his outfit (a smart blue-green waistcoat and frock in the style of the era-- it reminded him of what he used to wear in Caribbean, with a twinge of sadness) by 'accidentally' knocking over a row of chairs. With her preoccupied, he was able to sneak out of the clearing to where a makeshift tent was strung up-- Jacky's tent, he assumed, for Kratos had stayed far from it and no other man had yet entered; he was her brother or close enough to it that he ought to be allowed in, right? Right. Hoping to whatever gods may have been watching that she was already dressed, he swept aside the sheet serving as a door and stepped in. She was pacing and mumbling to herself, and looking frazzled as all hell ( ... )

Shuraiya was right. Jacky was frazzled. She was more than frazzled. She was so nervous she was almost sick. How long had she spent dreaming of being married? She had grown up wanting to find someone to love and be with forever. And then she met Kratos. She hadn't even been sure she would marry Kratos at all, he hadn't been sure he had wanted to marry again. But still... he had proposed to her. And despite all they had been through, here they were. It was finally their wedding day.

And she felt like she could throw up.

Her pacing was stilled by Shuraiya's hand on her arm. She looked at him and smiled, still tense and anxious. "I'm... I'm just more than a little nervous. What if this marriage doesn't work? What if I make a complete fool of myself, as we both know I am prone to from time to time? Or if later he regrets this? Or..." She couldn't think of the other 'or's' at the moment. She was barely focused on anything at the moment.

He loosed his grip on her and slid his arms around her shoulders, drawing her into a well-meant, if somewhat awkward, hug.

"If it doesn't work-- which it will-- then it doesn't work. You'll probably make a fool of yourself as usual, but if he didn't love you despite that, I doubt he'd be marrying you. If he regrets this, I'll kick his ass."

Shuraiya pulled back and gave her a lopsided grin, squeezing her shoulders gently. "There you go, now you don't have anything to be nervous about. I'll take care of it."

Jacky laughed as Shuraiya threatened to kick Kratos' ass. It was something she had come to expect. And she kind of predicted he'd probably enjoy it more than she wished he would. But the fact that Shuraiya was here for her meant the world to her.

Standing on her tiptoes, Jacky reached up to kiss her brother on the cheek. "Thank you, Brother. Not just for today, but for everything you have done for me. It means more to me than you can possibly imagine."

"Hmm," He agreed wordlessly, a little uncomfortable (even now) with her affection. Hugs, he was getting used to-- but kisses, he still got flushed and shy, a rarity for the bounty hunter. "I can guess. Oh--" Shuraiya pulled away, reaching into his pocket. "--I got you something, but it's a little small, and I didn't want to lose it. I have to give it to you before the wedding starts, 'cause, uh. It's tradition or somethin' like that."

It didn't surprise Jacky to see Shuraiya a little flustered. It took a lot of people time to get used to her affection, and she knew it took even more time for people like Shuraiya, and even Kratos in the past, to become accustomed to it. "Shuraiya, you know you were not expected to get me anything!" She told him.

"Yeah, I know, but--" He found what he was looking for and drew a delicate gold chain out, its pendant clasped, hidden, in Shuraiya's hand. He took her hand and dropped the necklace into her upturned palm, smiling. "I found this not too long ago, when I was in Water 7-- it reminded me of you, so..."

He fished the pendant from the coils of chain, showing it to her-- it was a tiny gold ship with golden sails; moreover, it was an olive branch of sorts, a way of Shuraiya showing that he had accepted, to an extent, that someone can be a pirate and a good person.

"Do you like it?"

Jacky hadn't been expecting the necklace, but when she saw it, and saw the pendant, she understood what it meant. And she was more than happy for it. Without hesitation, she threw her arms around his neck, hugging him real tight.

"Shuraiya, I love it! It's perfect," She told him happily as she let go. She held the necklace to him now.

"Help me put it on!"

"Good!" Shuraiya had prepared himself for this, at least, and managed to return the hug just as tightly, chuckling a little in spite of himself.

"Sure," He unfastened it while Jacky gathered her hair up and reached around, clasping it securely around her neck. The pendant rested just above the dip in the front of the dress, accenting it perfectly. "There, it looks great."

A mirror had been placed in the room so Jacky could go over her features as she got ready for the wedding. Shuraiya was right, it did look great. It fit nicely with her dress. It didn't stand out awkwardly, but sat nicely and blended.

She turned around to smile. "It is absolutely perfect. Thank you, Shuraiya."

"You're welcome." He grinned again, pleased to have managed to get something right about this 'big brother' thing-- he'd always been good at that when he and Adelle were kids, whenever she was upset or scared, he was able to get her to calm down. He'd almost forgotten how; he was glad for Jacky, for her ability to restore the humanity in him.

"Now, stop being so damn nervous." Shuraiya said sternly, a ghost of a smile still on his face, "Everything's gonna be fine."
