Life...at it's best.

Today in clinical I was assigned a patient quite like the patient I had last week, except that she was also going to be discharged today as well. I don't think I've actually sat down and talked to a patient for so long and so...much. She was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago with a good prognosis, but recently found out that she was diagnosed the second time with the same cancer again, and had had surgery for it.

I was encouraged by my instructor to be more of a caring/spiritual-like advocate for the patient rather than a "medical" professional. Nursing does not just encompass medical care to better the health of the sick and making them physcially well...But also acting as a healer and helping patients recognize their feelings and to express their concerns. So I went in...and began to talk.

After our talk I realized that even in the very few 8 hours that I spend with a patient... they all seem to have the natural capability to touch every fibre in my body.

...and that's why I'm here. That's why I'm doing what I love to do.

My patients...are my inspiration.
