This is a story of a man...a true man...a manly man...a lion among bobcats...a bo jackson among a deion sanders...a true man.
The story begins as follows:
The first adventure was to be found in Savannah, Georgia. Luke was driving and I saw a giant globe sticking out above all of the buildings in the area and my curiousity got the best of me. I yelled at Luke to go over towards to globe so we could check it out. Sure enough, there was a giant ball of the world sticking up about 100 feet into the air! We were so excited and we decided we had to get pictures of this globe. Me and Luke went inside and found a receptionist to come take picture of the team in front of this giant ball of the world. I would like to thank whoever that lady was for taking those pictures. (as a side note, me and Luke also walked around the world in 80 seconds).
Now it was time for our team to head on down to Florida. (I should note that last winter Redeemed went down to Florida and this was the greatest adventure I have ever been on). This year was no different than last. There was one adventure after another. The one that tops it all though is a man named Wayne King. Wayne King was a man among men, a tiger among muskrats, a rose among weeds and also an intelligent design theorist among evolutionists. He was truly something extraordinary.
Why was this man so extraordinary? If asked this question my only response would be a yes. I know this does not answer the question…but that is the only reply that can be given. From the moment I met him I feared him, not because he was mean (he was) nor because he was aggressive (he was aggressive as well) but because he was intimidating. He sat me down on his sofa and asked me questions in a way that made me feel I was in Salem during the witch-hunts. He wanted to know every detail of why I came to Christ and who influenced me the most. It was a thought-provoking time and I really enjoyed the questions which made me think about my salvation.
The next morning Wayne King took us out on a swamp boat. He took the girls and Chris and left Luke, Jesse, and me in the woods to get lost. Sure enough we got lost and thought we would never find our way out of the woods or onto the dock he wanted us to find. We ended up at the wrong dock and this lady refused to rent us canoes because we seemed too shady. We somehow made it back to the van and then went on the swamp boat with Wayne King. The swamp boat was fun and relaxing and allowed us to take time to enjoy God’s beauty.
After our ride on the boat Wayne King took us to pick some fresh fruit. On the way to the fruit-farm he handed me a pistol and told me to hold on to it. I did as he asked and felt really shady holding what could have been a loaded pistol in a moving vehicle. He took the gun back from me and replaced it in his glove-box. I was starting to become worried.
That night we ate dinner at his house with the other members of the church where he was an elder. We sat around and sang gospel tunes all night and had a great time of sharing and fellowshipping. It was a great experience.
The next day he took our van to the repair shop (earlier i had banged it up against a pole at a gas station so it wouldn't close correctly) and threatned the repair shop with revoking their insurance policy if they didn't fix it for free. After he talked to the owner they immediatly fixed our van. Wayne told me that I could come back anytime I pleased...especially if I ever needed to lay low for a bit or 'just get away.' I have not taken him up on his open invitation yet, but I need to.
This is how to be a man.
