why can't it be circa 1954?
i am so jealous of kerouac. reading his stuff makes me want to run away and live out west. i could always hike the appalachian trail. one day i will when i'm forty or something. one of those mid life crisis things... i wish it was safe enough to hitch hike and hop trains. i met this girl in greensboro, nc that hitch hiked and even hopped a couple of trains. she was crazy! she knew people and traveled w/ them, so i guess it was safe for her. she knew where not to go when she was traveling alone. boy did she have some stories to tell. she was on her way to new orleans to spend the night under some bridge or something for halloween... i guess it is safe if you know where not to go. sort of like going to miami there are just some places you avoid. xo
