Quick post from the anus annals of student teaching
Not about the kids, about the sub. This week, my cooperating teacher is away at a conference. The sub is super nice but seems to think she's taking over the class for like half the year. She wanted to learn ALL THEIR NAMES. 90 kids. 4 days. IDEK.
Anyway, so today we were just chit-chatting, like ya do, and something came up about my dad (I'm graduating undergrad tomorrow so I am forced to see him) and I mentioned the "he keeps asking for grandbabies" thing, with obvious disdain. Sub lady, who has known me for TWENTY-SEVEN HOURS as of this writing, said, "Oh, you know, when you're with someone you REALLY LOVE...you might want to give him kids. To make him happy."
Excuse me. Hi. I wasn't aware that being in a heterosexual relationship with a male-identified person immediately both made me straight and gave him domain over my uterus. I was also unaware that being with someone meant that I had to do whatever he wanted to make him happy. I do the dishes sometimes, I guess. Oh, and I cleaned the spare room on Sunday. So yeah, that's totally the equivalent of SUBSUMING MYSELF AS A PERSON for MINIMUM 18 YEARS, giving up the career I just WORKED MY ASS OFF to earn a degree to HAVE, just to keep someone else happy. Or else he'll LEAVE ME. And we all know women are too stupid and slutty to be alone.
In short, WHAT KIND OF RIDICULOUS, MISOGYNIST, CONTROLLING, DEGRADING, BELLA-AND-EDWARD UNHEALTHY SHENANIGANS ARE THESE?
