I have what is appearing to be a permanent assignment at Tates Creek Elementary. The job was supposed to begin last Wednesday, but had to be postponed due to snow. Then, my student was ill Thursday, and school was not in session Friday or Monday. Thus, today was my first day working with her, a 6 year old kindergartener who is completely blind, aside from being able to tell the difference between a room that is absolutely dark or bright.

Today was a learning experience, as I tried to become familiar with her and I am sure that she tried to do the same with me. Yet, by lunch time she already appeared to be comfortable enough to attempt to play with me and see what she could get away with. Considering her limitations, she appears to be very intelligent, and is expected to stay on par with her peers. However, its going to be a challenge, especially considering that neither I, nor her homeroom teacher, have a background in working with individuals that are visually impaired.
