Unanswered Question of the Day: Where have I heard this song before?

Jun 26, 2011 11:01

This is the Adagio in G Minor, attributed to Albinoni, but probably composed by his biographer. Evan, my classical music reference librarian, was surprised that I recognized it in a soundtrack when he didn't. The question is: how did I recognize this work? This isn't a riddle, I honestly don't know where I heard it before. It is somehow extremely familiar to me, and I'm surprised that more people don't know it. I thought it was a standard over-played work on the level of Pachelbel's Canon in D. The IMDB and Wikipedia have been fruitless in producing suggestions, I don't recognize any of the works they mentioned as being where I've heard it before.

If nobody recognizes the answer to this question immediately, then the solution is probably just going to come in time, as at some point I'm going to hear the song and realize where I'd heard it before. Sometimes it takes years for this to happen, but it's happened before, so I'm confident that it will eventually.
