'Be My Valentine' semi-finals + TalentQuest08 quarter-finals
ok i know i'm supposed to update about my vietnam trip but because i am always procrastinating when it comes to uploading photos and posting them online, i shall leave that till a time when i'm more free. gonna talk about my singing comps in this post! :D
it's the time of the year to be in the singing competition craze again! ;p afterall, i'd better take part in more of them now, since in a few years time i'd have 'outgrown' them. not mentally, and DEFINITELY not physically, but numerically (in terms of age)! haha...
our music school held this singing competition 'Be My Valentine' for its students. shu, zen and i all took part in the comp and three of us got into the semi-finals! i think there should be 10 semi-finalists in total?
then we also took part in TQ this year. i + we actually managed to pass the auditions to enter the quarter-finals of TQ this year. haha! it's "i + we" because i've taken part in vocal solo, and along with my two friends, we've taken part in vocal group. gotten into quarterfinals for both vocal solo and group! honestly, i know i'm not gonna go far in this competition. i can hold a tune, but i know it's probably not the kind that shines during competitions. anyway, when i do take part in comps, it's mainly just for the kick of it and i'm also trying to get used to being on stage. Winning is secondary. Competitions are actually rather exciting... Considering the countable number of exciting activities you can do in Singapore, competitions are probably ranked top 5. lol.
the funny thing is that we became an 'acappella group' although we didn't mean it to be! three of us are attending harmonising / back-up singing classes, not acappella classes! and we'd only gone for 4 lessons in total? hahaha! we actually used the one and only song we learnt (彩虹的微笑 by 王心凌) to perform for the auditions! and because we don't have accompaniment, we sang it without any music. so we kinda 误打误撞-ly became an acappella group. haha!!! we went for the auditions last sunday and only found out yesterday (on Tuesday) that we had gotten into the quarter-finals, which will take place either this Sat or Sun! (we were informed just now that they've put us on Sunday, 'cos i wasn't available on Sat. phewz, otherwise i would have to give it a miss already.) that leaves us only 3-4 days to decide on the song and prep for the comp!!! as you probably would have guessed, we have NO ready repertoires at all(!!!), so we were frantically trying to settle things last night, selecting the song and figuring out the parts etc. luckily our laoshi had kindly forked out his time to help us with the parts tonight and also, rehearsal on Friday night. (感谢志文"佛祖" haha... cos we 零时抱佛脚!) else i think we will just go to the quarter-finals and "throw face" liaoz... :P
this is the group photo we submitted, haha! cute??? :P we'll be singing 帮个忙 by 蟑螂合唱团 and our group name is 蓝光惠·唱歌。First 3 words of our group name is made up of one word from each of our names, and 唱歌 just meant that we SING. hahaha. 够direct吧??? :P
still gotta choose song for my solo category! eeeks! they've not informed me if it's on Sat or Sun. I hope it's on Sun so I don't have to go twice! anyway, i've been having an itchy throat since i came back from vietnam... hopefully it gets better before the comp! :x
anyway, it's been a busy week this week. well, it's always a busy week when my boss is not around. and why is it that for other people it's usually the opposite? -_-" please grant me enough time to practise for my comp... pretty please? o_0
