how should we love?

girl and boy appear on different sides of the stage.
single spotlight on each of them.
with each line they pace closer towards one another.

girl: I wish to say that your beauty is more visceral than the winds atop the highest alps.

boy: I wish to say that your handsome hands are the most intricate works of a Greek sculptor

girl: I wish to say that my heart is empty till the very day you saw it hanging dry and breathed life into it

boy: I wish to say that this heart has never beaten for another, and it accelerates for you

girl: how do I love her?

boy: how do I love him?

both: softly

both: tenderly

both: gently

girl: under the covers of my sheets

boy: within the confinements of my abode

both: how do I love you?

both: I can't
both: I love you better in my sleep
girl: my dreams are never in motion
boy: my dreams are constantly moving
girl: paused. stuck. an unmoving image of you.

boy: flickering. snippets. the most candid of your smiles.
they notice one another
both: my love

they move towards one another but they do not touch
they pause.
they smile.
they turn around till they are back to back.
they reach forward with their hands and leaned forward.
there is a clear tableaux of the two bodies parting at the middle (the only contact point possible for them)
when their bodies are bent at the 90 degree angle, they utter the next line.

both: I shall love you better in another life

both of them collapse onto the ground
