Torchwood Fandom, sometimes you suck
Yeah, CoE was a death blow to a huge contingent of the fandom and has left it deeply divided. The new series MD may or may not be total crap but it's definatly in the vein of CoE, not the first two seasons. It's entirely possible that CoE has killed what was a very active, large and rather lovely fandom (the jury is still out on this one). Lots of fans (myself included, frankly) look at the new stuff with a very jaundiced eye.
But, y'know? Picking and poking at every pimple and every fart from every actor/writer/director/crew member/production company who are involved in the new stuff to find more reasons why the real people are bad is shitty. It's a goddamned TV show, and the fact that some of the characters on the show are criminals, or assholes, or bad characters who might (or might not, because, fuck we don't even know the story details of the new series) get away with crimes does not mean a thing about the morality of the actors, the writers, the production company or the damn janitor that sweeps up after the shoot.
Yeah, there's a child molester in the show, yeah, he might get away with his fictional crimes. That doesn't fucking mean Barrrowman, RTD, or anyone else involved with the show fucking supports pedophilia!11!!! WTF is wrong with the contingent that thinks so? Is ever damn CSI writer a secret murder? Every actor who plays a torturer or rapist endorsing torture and rape?
Is there really no difference between fiction and reality in [obnoxious contingent]'s mind?
Let me tell you, CoE wrecked me for some time. I hate it, I hate the messages in it but I don't fucking imagine that Barrrowman or RTD is homophobic because of a show that -- to my eye, based on a very good understanding of media messages about queerness -- had some homophobic messages in it. I don't waste my time trying to find more and more ridiculous ways to get everyone else to feel the same way I do about the new direction of the show, or my interpretation of CoE. I write fiction that ignores it, or fixes, it, or I focus on a different fandom ... or my fucking garden. Because spending all my life with a hate hard-on is a waste of my time and energy and makes me look like an asshole to boot -- kind of like you [obnoxious contingent].
Knock it off. Behave like reasonable human beings and find some more constructive way to deal with your dislike of the new direction than to try and generate imaginary 'crimes'. The fictional presentation of a pedophile not being immediately punished is not some special evil that needs to be stamped out -- and your cage rattling is clearly nothing more than another ugly attempt to spread the hate for something you hate.
