Bosco let out a breath, his leg bouncing nervously as he sat in the court room between his mother and Emily. It had been an emotional trial to say the least, but both Emily and Faith had done very well. Now they were just waiting for the jury to return to the court room with their verdict. Emily was holding his hand tightly in both of hers and he leaned over and placed a kiss on the top of her head. He then looked over at his mother and reached for her hand as well.
Rose offered him a reassuring smile as she took his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze.
He turned back to Emily. "You doin' okay, kiddo?"
She nodded slightly, not taking her eyes off her mother. "I wanna go sit with her."
"Sorry, Em," he told her softly. "You're gonna have to stay here for now."
She bit her lip, nodding reluctantly.
"No matter what happens I want you to know that you did real good, Em. We're all very proud of you."
"Thanks," she whispered, looking up at him.
He smiled at her and kissed her forehead. "If I ever have a daughter I hope she's just like you."
A real smile spread across her face, her eyes twinkling.
Having made Emily smile he relaxed for a moment, but then immediately tensed when the door at the front of the court room opened.
"All rise," the baliff announced.
Letting out a breath Bosco rose to his feet along with Emily and his mother, all of them still holding hands.
Swallowing hard, Faith rose to her feet, as well, her heart pounding heavily in her chest as the jurors were seated. Judge Matthews took her seat, as well. "You may sit down," she instructed.
Even more nervous than he had been moments before Bosco sat down. He glanced from the jurors to where Faith was seated and back again. This was the moment they'd been waiting for, but now that it was here he couldn't help but be a little afraid of the outcome.
"Have the jurors reached a decision?" Judge Matthews asked, looking over at them.
The forearm stood up, and nodded. "We have your Honor."
"Please read your verdict."
Swallowing hard, Faith held her breath.
Feeling Emily's grip tighten on his hand he pulled the young girl close, putting his arm around her.
"Not guilty on the charges of murder in the first degree."
Her mouth dropped open, stunned by the man's words.
"In the case of the State of New York versus Faith Yokas we find the defendant not guilty on the charges of murder in the second degree. Furthermore, we the jury recommend the immediate release of Faith Yokas from Riker's Prison."
The air left Bosco's lungs for a second then he smiled and picked Emily up off the ground. Tears of joy welling in his eyes.
Faith sat motionless, completely floored with the verdict.
Emily giggled as he spun her around.
Bosco paused long enough to kiss his mother's cheek. "This is so..." He chuckled softly, not even knowing what to say.
Rose smiled at him. "I know."
"Order," the judge commanded, banging her gavel on her desk.
Swallowing hard, Bosco put Emily down, keeping his arms wrapped around her as they sat back down and shifted their attention to the judge.
"On behalf of the state of New York, I'm releasing Mrs. Yokas on her own recognizance." She looked at Faith. "Case dismissed."
He stood up again. "Come on, Em. Let's go see your mom."
Jumping to her feet, Emily raced up the walk.
Smiling he watched Emily hurry toward her mother and before following the girl he turned to Rose and wrapped his arms around her. "Thanks for being here."
"Wouldn't have been anywhere else." She kissed his cheek. "Now go see her."
He nodded his head as he pulled away and headed for the front of the room.
Faith wrapped her arms tightly around her daughter as she knelt down in front of her, closing her eyes. "I missed you so much," she whispered, tears in her eyes.
"I missed you too," she told her, as she rested her head on Faith's shoulder.
She kissed the top of her daughter's head. "I'm never leaving you again."
"I love you," she whispered.
"I love you, too, Emmy," she whispered back.
"You ladies about ready to head home?" Bosco asked softly from where he stood a couple feet away.
She slowly and reluctantly released her daughter from her embrace, standing up to gaze at him. "More than ready," she whispered before sliding her arms around him as well.
He wrapped his arms around her and placed a kiss on her cheek. "Charlie's gonna be so thrilled."
"I can't wait to see him."
"He's over at Corey's. We'll pick him up on the way home."
"Where's home?"
"Oh, uh...my apartment," he told her softly.
"Is there room for one more?" she asked just as softly.
"Of course there is. Me and the kids set up my apartment a little different." He smiled. "It's not your typical bachelor pad anymore."
"No?" She smiled.
"Not when there's two twin beds in the living room. One sectioned off with football bedsheets and the other one sectioned off with purple sheets. Had to make the kids their own bedrooms."
She gazed at him, her eyes soft. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," he whispered, pulling away and taking her hand.
She slid her fingers through his, holding her other hand out to Emily. And together, they left the court room.

Bosco turned on the lamp then shut off the overhead light in his room. He pulled back the covers on his bed and glanced up at Faith as she came into the bedroom wearing a pair of his sweats and one of his t-shirts. "Kids asleep?"
"Yeah." There was a faint smile on her face. "Emily fell asleep in my arms."
He smiled softly as he climbed into bed. "They've both missed you so much, Faith."
"I've missed them, too." She sat down on the edge of his bed, gazing at him. "And you."
A faint smile on his face, he nodded slightly. "Me too."
"You sure it's okay if I share your bed?"
"Yeah, it's fine."
Nodding a little, she slid beneath the covers and turned so she was facing him.
"It's so good to see you outside of that place. Feels like it's been forever," he told her softly.
"Yeah. Yeah, it does." She shifted a little closer to him, resting her head on the pillow. "I feel like I could sleep for a week."
"Feel free to. Ma and I can take care of the kids."
"I know you can," she said softly.
"I didn't do so bad, did I?"
"You did great."
"They're good kids," he whispered.
"You're gonna make a great father, Bosco."
Smiling, he blushed slightly.
She reached out and touched his arm. "The kids adore you."
"What's not to adore?" He joked.
Faith smiled, her eyes full of warmth. "Goodnight."
"Hey, Faith?"
"Yeah, Boz?"
"Is this our last conjugal visit?" he asked, only half kidding.
A short chuckle escaped her lips. "Do you want it to be?" she joked.
He shook his head against the pillow. "I kinda like 'em."
"You do?" There was a hint of surprise in her voice.
"Yeah. I feel a lot...closer to you now. And it's just so comfortable, ya know?"
"Yeah. For me too," she admitted softly.
"Are you gonna go back to the apartment?"
"I'd rather not." There was no hesitation before she answered. "But I know you need your place back, so I'll start looking--"
"You can stay."
She was quiet for a moment. "For how long?"
"However long you want," he told her softly. "There's no rush."
"Thank you." She kissed his cheek.
"You're welcome. It'll be nice having you here." He shifted a little closer to her.
She rested her head against his, closing her eyes. "This is so much nicer than a mattress on the floor," she murmured.
Bosco put his arm around her. "Sleep in as late as you want tomorrow. I'll keep the kids busy until you're ready to get up."
"Thanks." She snuggled a little closer to him, her body relaxing.
"Sleep tight," he whispered. "I've got your back."
A smile tugged at her lips. "You always have."
He kissed her forehead softly. "See you in the morning."
Curled up against him, and relaxed for the first time in weeks, Faith drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
