So...I've started working on a new original writing project. What I think may be a young adult novel eventually. I actually handed out the prologue and chapter one to my writer's critique group tonight ( Read more... )

That is a interesting idea.
I have read a few books where it switches between 3 or 4 characters. Would it be the same story told from a bunch of point of views, or several short stories? Either way, great idea. I hope it turns out great.

Well, what I sorta picture is having two main characters. Chapter one would be about character A, chapter two about character B, so on and so forth. It'll be more about character A, but with a chance to see her from character B's POV, as well. If that makes sense. Heh. Thanks for responding! :D

Wasn't that how the Babysitter's Club books went?

Congrats on writing again!

I think it was just the special editions, wasn't it? Where the POV alternated every chapter? I think most of them centered mainly on one character. Wow. I can't believe I still remember that. :P

I think as long as you stick with that pattern it wouldn't be confusing. Actually, it might be refreshing.

If you dig up a copy of 'My Sister's Keeper' by Jodi Picoult, it phases between at least 4 or 5 characters in different chapters - but the interesting part is that they each also have a different FONT - not in the 'really distracting font' way, but one might be arial, one times new roman, one impact, etc etc. It made it a little easier to pick which character was which, and made it less necessary to have a big chapter heading:

'CHARACTER A' or 'CHARACTER B' which, while useful, sometimes just takes the flow out of it...

I also remember the baby-sitters club books - all the normal/series numbered books were one-narrator, though the narrator differed with each book. The super specials had the new narrator each chapter, with a hand-written page, then a typed chapter. The super specials were also where you got to see things from the less common character's points of view - some of the kids, or the relatives/boyfriends/whatever.

Honestly i'm not TOTALLY lame, i just have one of those memories that traps these sort of things :P

Oh, I loved that book. Good example, thanks for the suggestions. :D Am I totally lame for still *having* my Babysitter's Club books? :P

No, because i still sometimes get an overpowering urge to buy a full set on e-bay just to *have* a full set, and get to read them all through. Same with animorphs :P
