The Ring

This is [edited] a comment I left on someone's journal today. Maybe someone else will get something from this story.

I used to wear a W.W.J.D. ring on my left ring finger, and it symbolized purity and everything for me. Whenever I took it off, I made the "worst" mistakes of my life (like there is such a thing). My boyfriend that bought me my first promise ring took my promise. Then I would wear my WWJD ring and remember, I would give it all up to Him again. Eventually, someone asked me why I wore this gross looking worn out ring all the time. I told them why, that when I wore it, I remembered God was with me. They looked at me and very blatantly informed me "Sounds like you're putting a little too much power into the ring."

It was like ... if I wasn't wearing that ring and didn't have it there to remind me, then I wandered a way. I shouldn't need a ring to stay where God wants me. Just like you, learning to be content in your life. Once you stop longing for companionship and searching for it high and low, it will blindside you. Trust me, I've been there. God's got a plan for you, with or without a wife, and all in His own timing. I know the loneliness you might feel at times, I feel it, too. But it's like my friend Jaysen said last night, "I don't care if I get married, as long as I'm doing what God wants me to." I sternly agree, though we both long to settle down. It has no power over us anymore, and it's no longer in the way of our view of God and His purpose.

And some more blabber...

The mistakes I made without that ring on have opened the doors for some of the biggest ministry opportunities of my life. I can relate to the girl who darkens her appearance and segregates herself from the rest of the youth group, who was molested and raped and ends up in my cabin at camp, in my car on the way there and back. I can relate to the girl who is in so much pain, she has turned to self mutilation, who ends up in my cabin at camp. I can relate to the girl who sometimes feels like her dad doesn't even love her, who was diligently in my small group every week. Well, almost. :)

Sin is sin, there is no level of extremity like the world classifies. There is just sin. Doing wrong against God, pushing us away from Him. Things we know we shouldn't do, but do anyway, distancing us from Him and His purpose and His blessings and His love.

Be content in your life and yourself, God sees the bigger picture. Know that He sees through all your mistakes, "big" or "small." He has a plan for you, we don't need to go looking, we'll probably end up in the darkest corners of our lives thinking we're onto something.
