Fic Update - Gender Allotment
Hello, all! Now, I know there aren't many of you, but that doesn't change the fact that you're there. So I figured I'd give you a little snippet as to what's going on with me lately. Which, honestly, isn't much. Sort of. Below is a list of things I've been working on. Some are marked with spoiler warnings for some stories I'm working on, so I don't recommend opening them up until you're sure you don't mind.
For all my works I'm trying to increase the number of women/girls with speaking roles because my boyfriend brought to my attention that recent studies have found that 75% of speaking roles in media are male. Now, I took a close at media and was shocked to find that said statistic is crazy accurate. Having been raised on feminist fiction I found this quite appalling, especially since my own work reflects the statistic in an exaggerated way. (About 90/10 instead of 75/25.) So I'm making an effort to increase the amount of estrogen in my fics and original works.
For my big bang fic, (RE)Programmed, I'm reworking the opening scene, which is fighting me like no tomorrow. Somehow Mr. Hardcourt from Atlantis The Lost Empire made it into the first chapter, and it's like... the what now? But it works well so I'm not fighting it. (Ah, minor characters...) I need a more predominantly female cast, but there're so few female characters to choose from. >_> I'm thinking of making Quistis a major character in a small way, but at the same time I'd much prefer Selphie as she would have a much more direct sort of interaction with Sora.
I just realized Final Fantasy is very fair with its gender allotment for main characters, but unusually sparse when it comes to females in the background... Except for Final Fantasy IX, which not only has more acknowledged females than males in the main party, but the females are generally equally as important as men for large quantities of the plot and aren't overly sexualized. I knew there was a reason I loved that game. It helps that the girls have a good helping of gumption and don't just lie down for the enemy. Heck, Beatrix is easily a more powerful swordsman than Steiner, Freya is a freaking Boss, and Eiko and Garnet/Sarah are white mage/summoners who aren't afraid to fight for love! (Beatrix and Freya are tied for favorite female characters. Sadly, my favorite character is not a girl - it's Vivi. But you can't blame me. Honestly, you can't.)
On to The Mechanic news! Chapter nineteen is fighting me, if only because my computer no longer has any battery so I've converted it into a desktop. Now it's pretty awkward to get to. Well, NOW it's not. I moved this around a bit. Oh - and my screen is cracked, too. But I can't really afford a new laptop so I'm stuck with Tron the way he is; dead battery, cracked screen, and limited data and all. Oh well. I love him anyway. <3

Currently I'm working with part of the outline. [Spoiler (click to open)]I'm trying to figure out how to kill off Lilo Palakei. Long story, but it has to be TOTALLY EPIC. I'm thinking a Gummi ship battle or something. Maybe she gets taken out by heartless. Oh - and Leon's POV for arc six is still fighting me, 'cause now I have a bunch of students from The Academy coming in and interfering with him while he's saving Sora from Namine's curse by tracking down Xion to kill her. A bunch of Organization members are protecting her, and they end up taking care of them along the way. Xemnas was already taken out by Riku in advance so... yeah. No big Xehanort plot. Sorry guys. Lots of fight scenes, though. Other than that there's a little more romance in chapter 19. You guys will probably be happy about that. Or not. I have a feeling you're going to hate me for it... Yeah... Please don't.
My original work is going poorly, but that's all I'm telling you about that.
So, yeah! I'm not dead, but I just had my 20th birthday. (Oh my goggles, I'm not a teenager any more. o-o) I am now Tifa Lockhart's age! Yaaaay! Sort of. I'm gonna start cosplaying her, now. ^_^ You know, since she and I are the same height, bust size, age, and even have the same birthday. *Grin* So yeah. That.
I'm also been playing an obscene amount of Kingdom Hearts RE: Chain of Memories Reverse/Rebirth. It's ridiculously hard compared to Sora's story. >_>
