...
It wasn't supposed to happen.
0200 hours had just passed in the hallways of the Enterprise, and the lights were dimmed to portray a darkness akin to night, and those lips smoothing over his, warmer than any pair that had graced him with a kiss before, were taboo from the moment in which the other became unavailable. They were soft, but didn't give immediately to pressure of the act. Instead, the skin portrayed a certain firmness, and Jim found himself reveling in the fact that there was something there to kiss; no woman had been this firm. Plump lips could only apply so much attention that could be felt. They would be red and flawless with years of experience, and undeniably feminine in their execution, but this mouth was different.
The lips that had descended on Jim's were pale, thin, and chapped with a distinct lack of stick or balm despite their velvety texture. Stubble, so very slight and nearly going unnoticed, scraped against his cheeks and chin despite how the kiss was light- barely a butterfly's touch- as if to remind him that this wasn't a woman that was kissing him. Kirk needed no reminder as eyes remained open, though they drifted steadily closed against any thoughts he might have had on the matter.
Through it all, Spock's mouth descended on his with a certain kind of determination. Yet he hesitated, tugging slightly from the older man as he laid the gentle kiss upon his captain's lips. This sort of thing should not have been happening- he was with Uhura, and the possibility of a marriage was looming ever closer. Repopulating the Vulcan race was important, but in that moment things had changed. As to how, nothing came to mind. 'Why' prompted no explanations.
Watching as the man drew away, Jim allowed his eyes, still at half-mast, to portray his confusion. “What was that?” It came out as a hot whisper in the already stifling hallway. Everything was warm; charged with an electricity that raced through their bodies, feeding the sticky-sweetness that was quickly working to muffle any logical thought beneath a theoretical wool blanket. No one passed through the hall, and the men silently thanked their luck for this as their eyes lingered on each others' lips.
“I do not know,” the raven-haired man replied, his breath coming in even gasps. Swallowing heavily, Spock allowed his gaze to race from the other man's eyes, then back to his lips before he descended once more. The kiss was slow, gentle; so much softer than the desperate presses and delving tongues of one-night-stands that Kirk was oh-so accustomed to. Eyes drifted closed once more, and Jim found himself falling into a pool of thoughts that flooded through his mind too quickly to comprehend before imagination finally failed him.
Soon his hands were resting on the Vulcan's chest as slim fingers traced the line of his jaw. Soft; dexterous; touch light as feathers on his skin. The contact was almost loving in its execution, and only one word could describe the kiss Kirk's mind.
Lovely.
In ways he had never before considered possible, that kiss was by far the loveliest thing Jim had ever experienced. Before long, however, the two pulled apart and looked away. A heavy weight fell into their stomachs, and the air chilled between them as their lungs and hearts strained beneath their ribs.
It wasn't supposed to happen.

Notes: First Trek fic, and my only regret is that it's for the movie and not the actual original series. However, I don't actually feel that regret because I wrote it for my best friend. See, Clarrolx lost internet and needed some cheering up. Since I love her (so much so that I wish I could believe in reincarnation so that it would be possible to be her sister in another life) I decided to write her a quick short about her current favorite pairing; Spock/Jim. Since I can't imagine William Shatner and Leonard Nemoy kissing (and it actually being cute) I chose the next best thing: Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, who have so much of that same charisma the original pair had, if not more, that it's almost scary.

Love,
Besieged Infection
