Who is Bellyqueen?
Founded in 1998 by Kaeshi Chai (New Zealand/Australia) and Amar Gamal (Cuba), the group has grown from an NYC-based trio dancing at a local restaurant to a multinational ensemble 13 members strong, performing together and individually throughout the world. Current Bellyqueen dancers include Anasma (France), Sandralis Gines (Puerto Rico), Elisheva (Long Island), Cara West (Nevada), Cristina Rubio (Colombia), Dariya Chugunova (Ukraine), Irina Akulenko (Ukraine), Ashley Bull (Orlando), Malaya (Philippines), Lena Marti (Brooklyn) and Vanessa Neva (Belgium). Visit the company page for individual bios.

Lauded by US and international press for their cutting-edge repertoire, Bellyqueen enchants audiences of all backgrounds, genders and ages with the energy, elegance and sensual power of Middle Eastern dance. Bellyqueen's diverse choreographies are developed through the group's unique collaborative process, drawing upon each member's extensive background in performance art.

By blending Middle Eastern dance styles-from the traditional "raks sharqi" (cabaret bellydance) format to folkloric-with ballet, modern, jazz, gypsy, flamenco, hip-hop, Chinese and Afro-Cuban dance, Bellyqueen explores and expands the rich world of bellydance, transforming it into a riveting theatrical experience that is "more exciting than a high wire act!" according to Umbilical Brothers comedian Shane Dundas.

Based on the strength of their unique vision, body of choreographies and performance history, Bellyqueen was the first established bellydance company asked to perform in Las Vegas at Aladdin's Desert Passage for an extended contract.
In 2003, they were asked to join the first full-time professional touring bellydance company in the world, the "Bellydance Superstars". Since then, they have performed at Lollapalooza, the World Peace Awards in Bali, toured extensively through the US, Europe, Canada, Asia and made numerous television appearances. In February 2004 they released their first instructional DVD, "Bellydance Jam" and in March 2007, they released their first full length performance DVD "The Bellydance Experience".
