Our legal system is very messed up

If someone who is highly intelligent (self call), has spent the past 6 years developing complex research skills paired with access to legal and academic databases a fraction of Americans have access to, has trouble figuring out very basic legal stature, how is the common person expected to be able to?

How does lawr (hey hunter) work? How are even the most egalitarian of laws just in a world where the common person doesn't have access to knowlege of those laws?
