In which I get angry.

I have a big long rant I'm working up, but that will be coming another day. This one is smaller, but I think it makes me even angrier than the other one does.

So. Spring Awakening. Jon Groff.

I am getting really sick and tired of hearing all these people talk about how they "know" he's gay. First off, it's absolutely none of our business what his sexual orientation is. I personally don't think he's gay, but if he is, so what? Why does it need to be constantly gossiped and whispered about? No one but Jon himself can possibly "know" if he is gay, and until he sees fit (and he may never) to inform the public, it's really none of our concern. Yes, there may be a mention of it here or there. It's inevitable. But this constant talk about it is ridiculous. It's actually really upsetting to me that  someone will praise Johnny Gallagher's performance and in the same breath they won't make a mention of Jon's performance at all, and the only thing they'll do is speculate about his sexuality. Jon is an amazing performer, and to overlook that is such a horrible, miserable shame. He's on that stage working his ass off eight times a week, and all anyone can think to say about him is "omg is he gay?" To be perfectly honest, that's a disgrace. He's such a talented performer and such a wonderful person, and he deserves praise and recognition for that, not gossip about him and his sexuality. I've met him quite a few times, and each time I've been blown away that he remembers me and knows my name. That a person would care that much about their fans is something worthy of praise and THAT is something about him that should be talked about. He's so dedicated to SA that he's never missed a single show. THAT is something we should be talking about. His sexuality and personal life are, quite frankly, none of our business, and I think everyone needs to realize that. He's a freaking person too. How would everyone like their own sexualities constantly speculated about? I doubt they'd like it very much. The Golden Rule, people. It actually makes a lot of sense.

And damn it to hell, just because one man kisses another man on the cheek, it does not make him gay. I've been hearing way too much of this "OMG GROFF IS GAY" stuff cause of that stupid video with Michael Mayer. Listen-- people in theatre tend to be much more open and and affectionate than other people. It's especially prevalent with men, since in the theatre world, they don't need to really hide their emotions the way other men seem to think they need to do. Also, the cast and crew are like FAMILY. There's nothing more to it than that. It's ridiculous anyone would even suspect that there is.
