It's the silence that suffocates.

Snow caked the outside and inside of his earthbender shoes. It even crusted over that omnipresent curl that draped over his forehead and highlighted those puppy dog eyes of his. His chattering teeth and purpled lips parted in a smile as he reached for her palm to pull her into a hug. Something she had been waiting for this entire distance. This entire separation between friends.
But Mako took her hand and kissed it and Bolin's face fell to the center of the earth he loved so much, and melted at its very core. With a bat of thick eyelashes and a twitch of his frostbit mouth, he offered her a smile and a soft punch to the arm instead of a squeeze of her hand and hug of of her shoulders.
"Korraaaaa. Korranator. What's happenin'? Heard you been healin' all sorts of people. Way to play doctor. Can I get a whoop-whoop?"
Korra gave him a laugh in humor of his efforts, her blue eyes shimmering with something akin to guilt, "You came back, Bo. I didn't think you would."
Bolin lifted those thick brows of his and simply stared at her a moment before shrugging, "Told ya that you're one in a million, Korr. Wasn't just sayin' that."
But he left soon after. Bolin never stayed long. He was content to roam and be restless. It was his returns that he longed for. That brief moment between hello and an awkward 'how are you?' that he could bask in her warmth and tell her everything without speaking.
I still love you.
