So the Reflective Progress Note (RPN) that I included in the previous entry is by far the best that I’ve ever written. My teacher said it was fantastic. I have a feeling she thought the ones I wrote are candy floss, with lack of research content.
I am glad the weekend is here, cause I’ve spent too much time at school this past week. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday….3/5 school days was spent in the library till 11pm closing time. The time was spent working on my frail elderly paper, which is the final paper for my Health and Healing class. It required me to choose a patient of my choice in the nursing home that I work at. After looking at the resident’s disease and medical conditions, I’m supposed to assess 3 significant areas related to any of the three of the following: skin, pain, elimination, cognition, nutrition, activity and mobility, oxygenation, circulation.
After finding out my client’s medical conditions, I found out my selected resident is a sociable lady diagnosed with hypertension, coronary artery disease (C.A.D.), transient ischemic attacks (T.I.A.), osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, constipation, and myocardial infection (M.I.). Unspecified osteoporosis and generalized osteoarthritis are the primary diagnoses. Her secondary diagnosis consists of benign hypertension, atheroscelerotic heart disease of coronary artery, and unspecified transcient cerebral ischemic attack. In working with a male P.S.W., I discovered that H.M. has a stroke history.
After absorbing the above info, I had a hard time selecting 3 assessment areas. I just knew that mobility was an issue because she has a rollator walker. After researching the medical conditions though, it helped me narrow down my assessment areas. I don’t think I gave my paper the amount of time it deserves, to be top quality, but I’m crossing my fingers. There are soo many things I’d like to change about it. I don’t think I did enough research, but I will see what my teacher says. Thanks to K.G. who helped yesterday with sending the paper to my teacher when she wanted it in her inbox by 3pm. I was busy with trying to get the hard copy to my teacher’s mailbox by the same time.
In other areas of my life, today I got a bite of Mike’s portabello mushroom sub from Quiznos. It was delish. Now it’s time for me to try to get some studying done
