Since the previous weeks of work were hellish I was hoping for a reprieve from the madness. Finally, work was on the up swing. Well, now the other shoe dropped. My father passed away early Tuesday morning due to a massive stroke. I drove down Wednesday for funeral visitation 7pm to 9pm. My brothers and sister filled me in on his downfall. Believe it or not, they were actually happy to see me. Surprising how when you stay away for several years family and old friends seem to warm up to you?!
The service is today. I'm going to try to make it back down for it. The roads were terribly slick. I also have work tonight. I told them all that I'll make my best effort to make it back. Surprisingly they understood about working and that if I couldn't make it down in one piece it was fine.
Out of everyone at the visitation I only had a few people that were dissappointed I had shown up. Being the evil bastard child out of our bunch they thought I had some nerve showing up. Well, if I can show up and piss off a few people, my job is done.
So, in all, we did play some catch up. Addresses were exchanged. Everything is as it should be. Does this mean we're all fine and good with each others lives? We shall see. Since I was the one who had migrated away from the flock I'm out of the loop with family, all the kids, and their lives. It might just mean I still won't have tons of contact with them. Which is good. We were a family of independants. We survived without each other for the longest time and I must say we all turned out excellent. It's just nice to know I'm not nearly has hated as I once was.
Even though it was a dark week for me, I can still get some light out of all of it.
Nice!
