The Delusion Of The Indie Movement

i've come to the realization that some people think that just because music is weird and somewhat original, that that means that the music is good. WRONG.

i went to see bright eyes at the state theater this saturday, the 15th. the band named 'Coco Rosie' played just before bright eyes, consisting of a beatboxer, a guitarist/vocalist/harp-player, and the lead vocalist. they all sat down, hippie style, and began to play their "music." it seemed like they were trying to make their voices sound terrible. i heard someone compare it to a cat being strangled. no joke, that was really what it sounded like. it was about as torturous as hearing a baby scream. all the while during their set, they proceeded to show a type of slideshow showing horrendous sexually-themed drawings in the style of their album art. i probably would have given them some respect for their lyrics, but i couldn't tell what they were "singing."

apparently, some people really liked this, to the point of tears. referencing my previous thesis, i say this: just because music may be different, weird, or original, does not mean that it is good.
