Sweet Family Robinson!

Apr 01, 2007 00:13

You honestly, truly wouldn't know it from the previews, commercials or hell, even the poster, but Meet the Robinsons is actually a pretty good way to kill about 90 minutes. In short, it's a movie that was about something, then became one of the first and certainly not the last to go under John Lasseter's knife. Reports vary, but it's widely believed that he changed a good 40-60% of the film before it was released. It turned out good, God knows how much more could've been improved had he been able to intervene sooner.

Basically, it's a film version of a Disney ride experience. Friendly, predictable, you can pretty much connect all the dots within the first 20-30 minutes, but nonetheless pretty fun. The quick visual gags and the dialogue really helped make it easy to digest, which most G-rated OHMYGODCG movies fail at pretty regularly.

Bonus points for Disney throwing in a vintage Mickey/Donald/Goofy short before the feature started. It's a really great nod to an old-school practice and it damn well better continue.
