in her case, the disease was discovered "accidentally" while having tests done...so, she hadn't had any symptoms yet. early detection was crucial for treatment, and for preventative measures.
it's my understanding that the birth control pills are used not just to regulate the menstrual cycle, but also to correct hormone imbalances caused by the disorder. excessive male hormones can be produced, which can lead to the hair growth and acne problems. but, like i said, early detection has really made the difference for her.
she hasn't had any kind of surgery or anything like that, and doctors think that by continuing her current treatment she shouldn't need to in the future.
as i'm sure you know, there's no cure for this disease, and basically all that can be done is to treat symptoms, and take preventative measures. ok...this is getting too long. sorry.
i hope this helps!

She takes Aldactone for the hair growth, but in the past she has taken Metformin, which is mainly to reduce metabolic problems, but has the nice side effect of stimulating weight loss and reducing acne!
I know several people who take the BCP alesse (for the "normal" reasons) and many of them say it helps their acne.
thanks for adding me, i'll add you back! PLEASE let me know if there's anything else I can do...
