Voces Inocentes
Innocent Voices -Movie

i attended a film screening with my sister at CSUN today. it was a screening of the newly released film "Voces Inocentes / Innocent Voices"... it was GREAT. i can't repeat it enough, the movie is GOOD. true art. it's the story of the Salvadoran civil war told through the eyes of a child. it's based on the true experiences of the screenwriter. his tale is unbelievable yet sadly familiar. the amazing part of watching this film was that i was sitting in an auditorium full of brown students, most from the only Central American Studies Program in the U.S., and watching a story that so many Central Americans are reluctant to tell. it helps me better visualize the few tales that my family is willing to share. the film is a possible Oscar contender... and is totally independent so it needs you and your family and your friends to watch it in theaters... no bootlegs! it's funny, because my sister almost didn't tell me about the screening because she was mad at me because the other day i was super mean to her... i swear, sometimes, i'm the worst, self-absorbed women with those i love the most. well, i'm glad she did tell me. and that she's not mad at me anymore. the filmmaker and screenwriter spoke after the screening, inspiring words. the film is playing in LA and NY, and will also be opening in a few other cities across the country. GO SEE IT!!!

on a sidenote, i just watched an episode of sex and the city... i'm hooked on it now... it was the one where Big invited Carrie to his engagement party... and she spoke about "simple" women and men being unable to handle wild, complex women... made me think of some things... made me feel good ;x
