They’ve stopped off on some planet whose name Rose doesn’t quite remember to pick up some parts. Jack disappeared almost as soon as they left the TARDIS, claiming he had friends to visit. They’ve all been a bit tense since Cardiff the day before. Between dealing with Blon and things apparently really being over with Mickey now (she has known deep down that they’ve been done for a while but having actually acknowledged the fact is still strange) she is all restless energy and frustration.
In the heat of the moment she had said it’d be nice to get a second chance at things. After she’d had a good cry in her room though she realized that is not really what she wants. What she really wants is to not regret waiting around for things to happen. She fidgets with one of the rings on her fingers as she leans against the metal security door of a closed store while the Doctor is next door bartering for parts. He’d seemed a bit put out when she had told him she’d wait outside. She knows he likes to show off for her but she needed a bit more time to herself.
She knows what she wants and she is going to get it. It took her longer than it should have but he’d given her no real indication that he did dance until Jack showed up. She’d written off his teasing about Mickey and Adam as him just being protective but there was no mistaking the hands off vibes he was sending Jack’s way when they danced around the console. Once Jack made it clear he wouldn’t try anything they’d all settled into an easy rhythm of teasing and flirting.
Even if she hadn’t really considered herself and Mickey much of a couple for some time, it wasn’t until now when she knew that he also wanted to at least try to move on that her thoughts were quickly straying past just flirting. The Doctor hadn’t commented on her outfit when she’d arrived in the console room wearing more form fitting clothing than usual. He seemed to have made a point not to comment on her clothes after he’d called her beautiful that Christmas in Cardiff. Jack was more blatantly appreciative but that was to be expected.
The Doctor steps out of the shop a moment later, stuffing his purchase into his bigger-on-the-inside pockets before approaching her. She doesn’t move from her position against the door until he is standing directly in front of her. He’s standing closer than strictly necessary. They have never been particularly aware of personal space but right now she is very conscious of their proximity. He’s grinning at her with his typical manic energy so Rose assumes he must have gotten a good deal on the parts but there is something questioning in his eyes.
She shifts her weight back, sliding one foot forward slightly so it rests between his. He is standing stock still and the tension in the air seems palpable, crackling with pent up energy. It would only take one motion to change things and before she can even think it through she’s moved. Her hand flies up and grips his neck, her nails catching lightly on his skin. He breathes in sharply and she can feel all that power coiled within him in an instant before she’s dragging her foot up the inside of his leg and yanking him closer. As their lips meet one of his hands connects with the slatted security door, bracing his weight and rattling the whole thing.
Rose wants to knock his hand away so he’s pressed fully against her but settles for fisting her free hand in his jumper and pulling so he rocks up on his toes for a moment and she has to tilt her head back to keep their mouths connected. She’s all frantic energy and need now. It feels like ages and less than an instant all at once and she wonders if that is some sort of Time Lord trick or just the dizzying effect of doing something that a few days ago she would have thought forbidden and even now isn’t quite sure. For one brief moment she is terrified that he isn’t reacting but then he growls against her lips and as soon as she’s dragged her foot back down his leg, he’s yanked her other leg up and she hooks it around his waist.
The combined force of their weight rattles the door again as he’s pulled flush against her and his hand glides up her thigh to rest on her hip, his fingers curling possessively over skin exposed by the slight gap between her shirt and the waistband of her jeans. His kiss is rough and demanding and exactly what she wants. When he bites down on her lip and pushes his hips against hers she forgets completely that there are standing out on a public street in the middle of broad daylight and even if this isn’t a particularly busy part of town, it is not exactly an ideal location.
If she’d known he’d react like this she would have snogged him in the elevator at Henrik’s. She gasps in a ragged breath when she’s finally forced to pull back for air. She can feel the warm flush that colors her cheeks as the Doctor stares down at her. “Rose,” his voice is rougher and she can’t help the almost predatory smirk from spreading across her kiss-bruised lips at the sound. She has always liked the way her name rolls off his tongue but this is even better.
“TARDIS,” she breathes out as his hand slips around the small of her back, pushing up her shirt slightly and sending shivers down her spine. “Or an alley, just… less public.”
“You sure?”
She doesn’t answer just presses another forceful kiss to his lips. She’s never been surer of anything in her life.
