I'm dusting off ye olde livejournal to make an entry from work.
I think the last time I updated this thing on a remotely regular basis, I was substitute teaching. I'm a paraprofessional for an alternative, special education school. I've been with the school for nearly a year now, and while the work is fulfilling, my hours/income are completely dependent upon a student's ability or aptitude to receive services that day. Hence, the situation I'm in today. My student in Hartford called me complaining of an allergic reaction to soap..so, my hours with him for today were shot. The contingency plan? Well, the case manager I work with happened to have called out this morning because her daughter is sick. So, the plan was for me to cover her with my other student (who is in Southington). She arranged this with his parents for 10a..our normal start time. I get a call from his father at roughly 9:30a, telling me that he was having some "attitude problems" and did not want school today. So.. I basically only get paid for two hours today. It's stressful when this is my primary source of income. I mean, I still work in the after-school program [where I still teach breakin']..and I'll be tutoring soon, but eh. I want as many hours as I can get, you know? I can go into the after-school program a little earlier today. But, the pay rate is pretty different. Eh, anyway. I'm here until 11a. .so, if anyone's reading, holler.
