Frikadelle

While in Germany, we had frikadelle (the plural of it is frikadellen). This food impressed me so much that I have been longing for it ever since we returned. I found a few different recipies for it, and couldn't decide so I took a hodge podge of the different ones that I thought sounded best. Here is what I came up with;

Ingredients:

1 lb ground pork
1 lb ground beef
1 cup diced onion
1 egg
1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs (I seasoned them myself with sea salt, pepper, and a bit of dried basil)
1/2 cup milk
2 tsp black pepper
2 tsp sea salt
2 tsp dried basil
2 tsp flour
plate/bowl of bread crumbs

To prepare:

stir the milk and bread crumbs together and let them sit
saute the onion until it's transparent (I then set it aside to cool a bit when it was done)
Mix the meats, seasonings, flour, and egg and mix them together thoroughly with your hands.
Mix in the bread crumbs.
Then again mix in thoroughly with your hands.
Mix in the onion, then again mix it all in thoroughly.

To cook:

Heat pan with non-flavored oil. I used Canola oil.
Make into balls about the size of the palm of your hand.
Roll in seasoned bread crumbs and cover completely
Pat on top with your hand to flatten it out a bit.
Cook in heated pan with oil till golden brown on each side.
Put on a bun, and if you need any condoment at all, mustard does fine!

I wasn't expecting this to taste exactly like it did in Germany, especially with this being my first attempt, but it was DAMN CLOSE!!! I can't believe how good this is! Seriously! It's delicious!!! If this were ebay, I'd leave feedback consisting of "HIGHLY RECOMENDED A+++++"
