Here I am. I have a day off from work. I love compressed work schedules. A three day weekend once a pay period makes all the difference. Kiel's sleeping right now, I was watching Regis and Kelly, but the cable was acting up, so I turned it off. Kelly Ripa kind of annoys me anyway. I don't know what it is about her. I'm not against the perkiness, or anything. Being perky is all fine and dandy, but there's just something about her.
Anywho. The Holidays were good. I went to Muskegon, saw a few good friends, hung out with the family. Kiel had to work Christmas Eve, so we left as soon as he got home from work. Well, that was the plan, but he got home at 2:30 AM, so he let me sleep an extra hour before we got ready to go. It's taking some getting used to, Kiel being on the third shift schedule. He sleeps extra late on the weekends, so I'm up a while before him. It's kinda nice to get some time to myself, but I always find myself tempted to wake him up. I'm getting better about it. Right now I'm just chilling with the kitty. Well, back to the Christmas. We got into Muskegon around 9:30 Christmas morning, dropped off the kitty at his house, and ran to my house to open presents. We went to my grandparents too, since Kiel's family had gone back to bed. We didn't end up doing anything at their house until late, which gave Kiel a chance to catch up on sleep. I spent time with my family and friends for the rest of the week. We left Muskegon Monday morning. I was kinda glad to be home. Muskegon is great, and I miss everybody so much when I'm away, but there's nothing like having your own place.
The work week was rather broken up. I worked Tuesday and Wednesday, which was New Years Eve. Kiel had to work New Years Eve, which meant that in our entire relationship, we still haven't spent a New Years together. I got invited to a party in the city, but there was only going to be one person I knew there. Plus, spending two hours between two different modes of public transportation, and walking alone in the dark, kind of deterred me. The Loop is always really easy to get to, but once it starts getting into the neighborhoods, I'm not all that familiar with them. We've been talking about moving to the City, which might be nice, but I'm kind of getting used to the suburbs. It's close enough that I can get to the city on a train. If we're not getting an apartment in the city, we're going to start renting a house out here. Maybe we'll try to find one a little closer to the city to shorten up the train ride, and make the train ride into the city cheaper. Plus, if we move north, Kiel will be closer to work. It's just kind of nice to have the choice between a night out in the city, or a night in a cute little downtown (which reminds me a bit of downtown Grand Haven). Well, we have a couple months before we really need to start thinking about it, and everybody that's come to visit loves Naperville, so we'll have to see what the next couple of months brings.
Anyway, this blog seems to be getting longer and longer, but I still haven't even touched on this weekend. Well, Friday and Saturday night Kiel had to work, so we spent the time picking up around the apartment, and just enjoying each others company. We knew we'd have Sunday night to make a date night. So we did, we went to the Library, more for me, I need more books to read. I got Wicked and the first part of The Great Hunt (the book is so long, that when they published it in paperback, they had to break it up). We went to the mall. Kiel bought me a Christmas Ornament. We decided we'd start a tradition where each year, we'll buy each other a Christmas ornament that represents the year before. Then our tree will start to mean something every year as we add more ornaments. I bought him one that looks like Chloe, and he bought me a locker that sings a song from High School Musical. I know, I'm a dork, but I can't help it. Then we tried this Mexican restaurant. They had a special on jumbo margaritas, so I got one. I couldn't even finish it, though I got close. I hate not finishing alcohol, but I definitely got my money out of it, since it was half off. Kiel bet me I wouldn't finish it, so now I have to buy him a video game. The food was really good, though. Today, who knows what we'll do. We have a couple of Netflix movies we haven't watched yet. One is supposed to be scary, and a guy at work recommended it, the other is Blade Runner, which Kiel picked. Well, I better get the most out of today, because then it's back to the day to day grind.
