In my everlasting search for awesome pancakes, I explored yet another part of Tokyo that I've not been to.
The area around Omotesando station. It's a classy area with expensive stores and high end brand names glossing the streets.
About 2 minutes from the station, it's
Crisscross.
The area is made up of 3 restaurants under the same company, T.Y. Express.
There is a terrace area outside the restaurants and people can enjoy the night breeze. But it was too hot, so we got a seat in the aircon.
Crisscross is pretty small inside with just a few tables. The lighting is dim and romantic and nicely decorated. There's fresh flowers on each table.
The doorway.
We started ordering back ribs, chicken, fried potatoes and pancakes when the waitress told us we ordered a little too much. So we cancelled the potatoes. As it turned out, she misjudged our huge appetite. The ribs and chicken did not satisfy our hungry tummies and so we ended up ordering a plate of pancakes each.
Back ribs, they were pretty good, but for 1700 yen, I expected something more and perhaps a side to go with or some greens?
Also at 1700 yen, this chicken cheese dish is a tad expensive. It tasted pretty good but I wouldn't want to pay 1700 yen again.
Our table
The pancakes. There's a big pancake on top of a smaller piece, topped with a scoop of butter and caster sugar. Syrup is in a jar by itself, out it on your pancakes and you get this lovely picture.
1300 yen
It's not bad, but the bottom of the second piece is a little hard, like they over cooked it or it was a little burnt.
Pretty nice pancakes and I would return just for them.
I also had their house blend coffee (600 yen). It was a big mug but coffee from vending machines actually tasted better. It was a major coffee disappointment.
Rating: 3.5/5
Crisscross is saved by it's romantic atmosphere and pancakes. If you are on a date, or just want something sweet, this is a nice place to go. For a meal, I suggest somewhere else.
