Hi Fearless reader,
I've been pretty busy for the last two weeks, but I've finally gotten some time to post an update.
Let's see now...I've been to some Comedy festival gigs and a really cool dance performance...
Dave Warnecke: He's the son of Shelly's workmate, and he's ok. Still green but he's improved from last year.
Stephen K Amos: Really funny performance, and it's fun to see a comedian who you thought was clean from tv actually swear during a live gig. :) His theme was laughter is the best medicine and it's pretty true, had a good laugh that night :)
I've also got Daniel Kitson penciled in for Easter Friday which should be good as well. I've seen him quite a few times and always been happy with his stuff.
I saw Riverdance at the Regent Theatre which was quite impressive. Thanks to a sale we got some really nice seats, and seeing them dance was just amazing. Really good stuff.
Managed to get some gaming done as well, good old steam (trying to work my way through my HUGE library of games) and board/card games with friends. Spending time with friends is definitely one of the highlights in my life. I have a new appreciation for my friends and it's been great to spend time with them in a group setting, like drinks and just plain hanging out till 3am.
One on one's are great too, like an EARLY 7am breakfast at an awesome bakery on a cold cold Sunday morning, or relaxing with a hot bath/sauna and hanging out all day with a great friend. :) Or even better, dinner and a movie that turns into a loong dinner instead when our waiter forgot to pass off our order to the kitchen, leaving us with missing the movie instead. lol...first time that's happened.
But talking about movies, I did manage to see Trophy Wife, a french adaptation of a play. It's set in the 70's and stars Gerard Depardieu and Catherine Deneuve, who still has it. "Set in 1977, the film tells the story of a submissive wife who gets to run her husband's umbrella factory, after the employees rebel against their tyrannical manager. She runs up against a socialist sympathiser who was an old flame.".
The movie looks like it was filmed in the 70's, from the font of the opening credits, to the fashion and even to the corny musical cues. A good movie that isn't as cliche as the movie description might describe.
I also managed to catch the Acmi Disney exhibit: Dreams come true - the art of Disney's classic fairy tales. It was really good and if you have any interest in animation or disney, please check it out. Oh but please get there early as it can fill up fast, as anybody who saw the Tim Burton could attest to.
I got to see a deleted scene from Snow White which was fun. Getting to see alternate character designs for Disney characters like Mother Gothel from tangled was really interesting and you get to see some neat traits that you might not see on the big screen, like a goatee braided into a noose :) And I got to see the ballroom dance scene from Beauty and the Beast. Maybe it was a combo of the incredible fluid animation, or Angela Lansbury's Mrs Potts voice, but it just hit me and I actually shed a tear or two as well. Check out the exhibit, its good.
