soooo....i got pulled over and got two tickets. long story.
my roomate and some freinds got really drunk the other night, he let someone ride his motorbike. nothing happened. he went to bed, an the other "freinds" kept drinking. no one is sure what happened but when he woke up his keys were missing and his tank took some damage. the windscreen was off of the bike, and broken in half. he missed work because of all this.
eventually we found the keys, but no one really fessed up about it, and *someone* is going to get kicked out of our group/home over this. once the keys were found i went to 7-11 to call gus guts (the bike owner) and tell hiim i had the keys for him, safe and sound. i put a $ in my tank and headed homewards.
i normally behave myself on major roads, and watch out for cops. i was so scatter-brained from all this bs, and having a good freind blow me off. (another story, but we made plans to hang out, and she is leaving town soon. what a friend huh, K!?)
so i was upset over all this, too much shit going on, and as i come to a light, i hold in the clutch on my bike (like being in nuetral) and use my right hand to check my back pocket for gus's keys. im not sure exactly what happened but the light seemed to turn red really fast, and i couldnt get my hand out of my backpocket and up to the brake quick enough, so ran a red light.
5 seconds later i see flashing lights in my mirror, i look back and see red and blue....great. i pull into a parking lot, and get greeted by a somewhat cute, but mostly homely officer of the law.
"blah, blah blah, disregarding a red light" she says
i nod, "im guilty" i say.
she pulls out her flashlight and looks at my plate,
"kind of hard to read your plate" she says.
i speak up.
"im going to be real honest with you, these plates arent for my bike"
i go onto explain how i lost my plates, and put on these. she takes my liscence and insurance, heads to the car. i wait.
she comes back and turns out she really appreciated the honesty. she could have taken me to jail for false plates. she came up with a lesser charge of "operating an unregistered motorvehicle", a class C mis. that i can likely have dropped if i get it registered real fast. i also got a "disregarding a red light" which im going to have to pay, but the officer chick said she would mention something about me not being able to stop. its still my fault, but at least its an accidental type instead of intentional (you know, like the reason i *ussually* red lights.)
it kind of breaks my heart. i was getting pretty confident on the VFR and learning alot of skills, working on new techniques. now i barely have the heart to go 10 mph over, or pull a texas stop at a stop sign. maybe i needed the wake-up call, maybe what i really need to do is buy some track time.
all in all, i am glad the officer was nice. im glad she let me off easy, and im glad my honesty paid off (it does 99%) of the time with law enforcement. i wish reguler people were that way too, id have it made in the shade.
oh well, its prolly going to be a few hours of my time, and like $60 bucks to get it all over with. my insurance will go up a little. i only pay 133 a year as is, so im not sweating it.
i better start leaving a few minutes early for work. i dont think i'l lhave the heart to do 60+ through the mile and a half of 35mph road i go through to work everyday like i have been.
