The week is almost over....

Tomorrow is one of the rare (now) occasions where I have to work on a Saturday: the school's biggest social event is tomorrow. When I first started working there, I was required to attend, eat lunch, look as though I was enjoying myself, and take pictures, but now all I have to do is show up bright and early in the morning and put up all the signs.

Considering that the event is a luncheon and fashion show, and that I have less than zero interest in fashion, I'm thankful that I don't have to sit through it ;). Really, the students and their parents love this event, and for anyone remotely interested in fashion, it seems to be a lot of fun. Plus an excuse for everyone to dress up and be all girly. (Those of you who are trying to imagine me doing this should feel free to snicker. Metaphors involving dressing a camel in a lace curtain come to mind.)

This week at work has been an utter and complete zoo, because the school's annual magazine drive ran over into the week before the fashion show, and also coincided with the annual audit and the deadline for the next newsletter. I don't have anything to do for the audit. but all three of the other things inundate me with a thousand details that have to be tracked, and I missed a fair number of them. Fortunately most of the mistakes got caught by other people checking up on me, except for the one that *I* caught after everyone else had missed it. ;) But I don't recall anytime recently when I've made so many dumb mistakes in one week. It's a bit disturbing. Hopefully this will stop as things get less frantic.

The payoff for working tomorrow is that I get the Friday of Crown Tournament weekend off, so I can actually plan to pack and drive over there Friday during daylight, including last-minute food shopping. I'm determined to go, if only to prove to myself that I can get it together to arrive at a camping event and enjoy the weekend while being properly fed, sheltered and comfortable. I've been observing recently that I must have been an anchoress in a former life -- it's very hard for me to get out of the house. I *almost* made it to Purgatorio and I really really almost made it to Beltane, and this time I'm determined to succeed.

I have hardly dared to say something for fear of jinxing it, but I'm actually working on an embroidery project and making progress on it. It's just a little scissors case, but I deliberately didn't sign up for the project it's intended for, because I didn't want to promise to make one and then renege. But it looks like I might actually have the embroidery finished by Crown and perhaps finish it that weekend.

Last but not least, the kitten formerly known as Muffin and I have agreed that Ginger is a fine name for a cat with her coloring and personality. "Full of ginger" describes her very well! She's getting to be quite an armful; as well as one can weigh a squirmy cat on an inaccurate bathroom scale (I need a new one) she seems to be somewhere in the vicinity of eight pounds, not bad for a seven-month-old. Her training also progresses; I can now (usually) scritch her under the chin without triggering her bite reflexes. I've also discovered that when she is particularly insistent on scampering around killing fuzzballs on the computer keyboard when I'm trying to type on it, ten minutes of Time Out in the bedroom with the door shut is remarkably effective at calming her down (and allowing me to get some work done).
