I watched Juan of the Dead the other day, and I knew it was Cuban to the extent that Voltaire tweeted about it and said it made him even more proud to be Cuban, but for some reason, I kind of assumed that it was just made by Cuban people and didn't necessarily took place there. Like, I guess I thought it was made by Cuban-Americans.
Anyway, it does take place in Cuba, and it's pretty important. I don't want to say, "Oh, the attitude of the characters...!" or "The wardrobe...!" since I don't know anything about Cuba, but it's a zombie film, and in it, the news reports call the zombies, "dissidents" and as buildings are crumbling, assure that everything is fine and to go about one's daily life. I think that's something that wouldn't make sense in Shaun of the Dead, and I love when people find a niche that only they can do.
It's also interesting when I get a new perspective on things. One of the characters says that he'd stay forever somewhere that they'd never heard of Cuba. I was like, "Does that even exist?" but I've always lived, what is it, 80 miles from it? Additionally, there is a part where they're like, "Well, you know how Spaniards are." Do Cubans look at Spain like the US looks at England? Haha!
I bought Gone Girl after Patton Oswalt mentioned it, and there were rumors about David Fincher directing a movie for it, and there are over 100 holds on it at the library. I feel kind of bandwagon-y reading it just for mere rumors, but I've never read something that is popular at the moment or on some sort of "Best-Seller" list. How do you even find out about that? I feel like the only way you'd know what people are reading is if you're at airports a lot.
Ok, I'd say that everybody knows that I've age issues. I try not to judge anyone except my parents or at the very least, accept that it's my issue. Lately, thanks to the magic of social media, I've been thinking, I don't understand how people older than me have the energy to hate stuff. I just don't care about 99.9% of things. And it's quite annoying to see a people constantly talk about stuff they don't like as if it's the correct opinion.
I've a Netflix trial for the month, so I started watching Louie, and I just saw a beginning of an episode where a 26 year old woman approaches Louis because she likes older guys. When he asks why, she says, "Guys my age just suck. They all think they're so great. But older guys are just relaxed."
I would've said, "given up" for comedic effect, but it's kind of creepy how that just happened, and I had a kind of, "Oh :\" moment.
