QuizFarm.com I haven't done one of those dumb quizzes in awhile...it was fun...
So yeah...more lazy days off, slowly but surely getting things done...fighting off some random stomach problems...
Friday night I went to see Slither with Elizabeth and friends...such a good movie. I hope you all went to see it this weekend. James Gunn is officially on the list. The movie is funny, amazingly gory, creepy as all hell, has a few really good jumps in it, features all sorts of hidden nerd stuff...yeah, he's a genre guy who likes genre movies...and it shows. Amazing performances my Dr. Fillion, Mr Rooker, and Elizabeth Banks, but seriously I thought everyone was great...
My only problem and it's a small one is that after we get to zombies, the worms kinda disappear...I would have loved on good shot of them both together...but the final scene more than makes up for it...yeah...everyone should go see SLITHER immediately...it didn't good great at the box office this weekend...apparently everyone went to Ice Age 2 instead...pussies...
While you are at the theatre make it a double feature and go see BRICK. Joseph Gordon-Levette carries this high school noir as the classic brooding loner trying to save the Ex he still loves. It's great to see classic 40's conventions used in a very foreign setting...the suburban CA high school...the whole movie is great. I love a main character that is constantly getting the crap knocked out of him...and the violence is good...innovative, well shot...good times. Also the movie was the first big movie produced by an A.D. friend of mine. Mr. Mark G. Mathis...so let's help old MGM make that back-end money! At the screening I was at last night at the arclight, Brian Singer, Ron Howard, and like half of the cast of Invasion were there...that should be enough of a ringing endorcement, no?
Other weekend highlights....oh...I went to my friend Raf's HEAVY METAL 80's party, dressed to the 9's...great F-14 Tomcat Airbrushed shirt...sleeves cut off...ripped up acid washed jeans...if only I had my Mylon & Broken Heart T-shirt from back home....oh well...The party was at Raf's bar, the Scene, and the deal was the he who is called 'El Guapo' put together an all-star cover band to play 10 songs for all his friends and family. I went specifically to see Ms. Sara Walbridge sing "Talk Diry To Me," but yeah, friends singing 80's hair metal classics...a reasonable way to spend ones Saturday night.
So I walk in the door and Raf immediately grabs me and says "hey, do you know the words to Highway to Hell?" "Umm...not really..." "Here's a cheatsheet, you're up second"...and just like that I had to pull a decent Bon Scott impersonation out of my already tight jeans...oh, there's a great story about me stuffing, but it's better told in person...I had a great time singing with a band behind me...it's been WAY too long...it was a good feeling. I wish that the lady could have been there, but she was feeling under the weather...*tear*
The last great thing of note for the weekend, other than just getting to spend some quality time with the lady, was going to see L.A.'s Own Derby Dolls live, right in my neighborhood. It was a battle to the Roller Death between The Tough Cookies and the Trust Fund Terrors...classic. There really is nothing like cute Rock-a-billy girls in skirts on Rollerskates elbowing each other in the face...the best part, the lady likes it just as much as I do...it's fun for the whole Rock n' Roll family...I'd love to see the league get up and running out here again...it and Lucha Va Voom are my two favorite "sporting events" in LA...
On that note, I'm off to finish everything that I need to get done before starting work tomorrow on "Death Row" *thunder, lightening*
I love and miss you all...
as my roomate would say,
Laters,
J
