Deader & Deader-er

I'll just skip the half-hearted apology for not updating in forever and gladly report that I have crawled out of the wreckage of another Mindfire Zombie movie...full of all the usual fun. Lots of green blood, lots of awesome make-up courtesy of Autonomous FX, lots of crazy schedule mix-ups and what-nots, and a little bit of putting up with a former Man of Steel...what can I say...

For all the nerd out there, I got to work with Armin Shimerman (Quark to the Trekkers, Principle Snyder to Slayer set), John Billingsly (the Doc from Enterprise), and Dean Haglund (one of the Lone Gunman)...all in all the movie was nerd-a-licious and all of the aforementioned gentleman were class acts in the first degree. Mr. Peter Greene, from the Mask and Pulp Fiction, also graced us with his presence...interesting guy...really interesting...not quite Amet Zappa, but close...really close...wow.

So yeah, movies done and I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend away with the gal of my dreams...a much needed mini-ski vacation...we never really traveled together the last time we dated, something I mean to fix this time around...she remains to be the most amazing thing about my life and a constant source of joy and light.

In other news, my Mom and Dad made it out to LA to visit and help me buy a new car (a gray '99 626...what can I say??). It was awesome having them in town...showing them my apartment, my friend, and some of my favorite haunts...hopefully I can con them into the Jon Recher Retirement plan...though I hear Kim is putting up a pretty stiff counter-offer....we shall see. But yeah, they were awesome...my Dad is the most amazing car buying machine known to man and what can I say, Mom brought cookies...I love them both so much and wish I could see them more. Hopefully I'll get to do the big family vacation thing this summer...though the schedule is filling up with weddings and whatnot...and I still have no clue what work looks like....such is life.

I'm taking a few days to finalize all the car crap and get my head together...I think I have a job starting next week, we shall see...it would be nice if another genre movie came my way...I'd much rather be working in horror and sci-fi.

Oh, here is one reason I love being in LA...some of you may remember me mentioning my friend Mitzu, who was my chief Riskshaw driver on Geisha, well...I was watching the season (and probably series) finale of Arrested Development and sure enough...there was Mitzu WITH A SPEAKING ROLE!!! He played opposite Christopher Geist at one of the attornies going after the Bluth family...it was awesome. I called him the next day and congratulated him...I hadn't spoken to him in almost a year...it was good to catch up...again...crazy.

The other bit of craziness was discovered watching House of the Dead 2 on Sci-Fi the other weekend. The credits go by too quickly to make out my name, so I suggest waiting until the DVD release in March...more boobs and gore too, which is always a bonus. Anyway, I was reminded of the fact that I worked with a lovely Latina actress Nadine Valesquez. Turns out Nadine has had quite a year...most of you will probably recognize her as Jason Lee's favorite hotel maid on My Name Is Earl...I've been watching the show since it started and I didn't figure it out at all...and I HAD REGULAR CONVERSATIONS WITH THE WOMAN!!! Crazy! Well, I'm just glad that she has found success and a role that really suits her.

Speaking of Earl, I would love in someone in the Hagerstown area could find me the articles in the paper about the MNIE controversy. Personally, I think that Mr. Carlos Garcia is paying homage to where he's from, Lord knows I'd do the exact same thing in his shoes, and isn't out to degrade Western MD at all. But what do I know, I left...

Anyway, I have to run, trying to finish 24 Season 4, so I can start watching the Season 5 that is taking up so much space on my Tivo...blah. And then after that NIGHT WATCH...gotta love the Russians and their love of Vampires...

If you guys and gals haven't seen Munich yet, i say go see it...barring one scene at the end, it was an awesome, suspense filled, amazingly shot, incredibly gory masterpiece by Mr. ET...again, he really just needs to work on his endings...when EW writes an article about it...you know it's bad.

Until the zombie horde comes for us all,

J
