Nothing is ever easy.
I took Pepper to get her yearly shots (FELV, FVRCP, Rabies) at the shot clinic in Petco. They use the same vaccination medicines anyone else would. Pepper didn't struggle while she was getting her shots, and I was one proud momma.
Then, we get home and Pepper comes out of the cat box. She's shaking all of her paws like she stepped in whatever she buried in her box. No big. I attempt to look at her toes and she tells me, more or less, no way.
I get Austin and a wash cloth and I hold her while he cleans her toes. There was nothing on them. While I am holding her, she is freaking out. She's hiding, growling, struggling. All things I have never seen or heard her do. I knew something was wrong when she wouldn't stop biting at all four of her paws.
She goes into hiding in the closet and under the bed. I decide she might be having an allergic reaction to the shots, and we need to take her somewhere. She is showing signs of itching/swelling and unusual behavior. We find her on the guest bed, surrounded by her own vomit.
We take her to the vet, get her shots, and the vet comes out and tells us she did suffer an allergic reaction to those shots, and to tell the vet we see next time this info so they can substitute for another brand of medication.
My poor baby is a little lethargic, she's still a little itching on her paws, her ears are hot and her mouth is swollen. She gets to have liquid benadryl for the next few days until she the reaction stops. I have never owned a cat that has ever had an adverse reaction to vaccinations. It is quite scary!
Now, she gets mommy to watch her closely over the weekend, and then mommy starts her new job at Ulta on Tuesday.
What a day!
