Introducing: The Turn-Offs

What do you get when you cross Olympia's Sleater-Kinney, add a dash of feminist poster "grrrl" Kathleen Hanna, and a whole lot of moxie? Answer: The Turn-Offs, and a damn good time shaking your ass. Members Rosie Bottom, Sherry Sacks, Stacy Spazz Atack and Dreiky Caprice, joined forces during the summer of 1999, in their native Brooklyn, NY. These girls with attitude and beats that will have you shaken' your thang all night, were quickly signed to Paroxysm Records, which describes the band as, "They have been known to make uptight scenesters & hardcore kids start dancing against their own free will." The Turn-Offs were featured on Paroxysm's compilation album, "Scandalized, Traumatized, Baptized," with their track "Sex Emergency."
Just recently the girls released their debut, self-titled 12" 4 song single, and should be entering the studio soon for a full-length. The buzz has started though and the girls are on their way up. Underpop zine recently reviewed the band, saying, "Post-riot-style guitars and aggression meets synth-heavy arrangements and infectious, dancey rhythms and some of the strongest, most assertive vocals heard since Sleater-Kinney. In fact, take the Olympia three-piece and switch some of their angsty pathos for catchy hook-heavy grooves and you might have a slight idea what to expect, but it must be heard to be truly appreciated." Right now the band is playing select dates. You can find their 4 song single and the "Scandalized, Traumatized, Baptized," on both KRS and Paroxysm Records website. In the meantime, prepare yourself for the Turn-Offs explosion, and shine your dancing shoes.
