I'm not as depressed/bitter as I sound, really. :O
From the last post, this particular one is meant to be made public because I don't care what other fellow countrymen are going to say, but this is how I feel. *shifty eyes*
Seriously, just WHAT do you have to do to get into the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences?! I hate to think this, but I have a feeling they lump all students together, and start counting people by their commitment, CCA + grades and accept them regardless of what they actually want to do for subjects. If so, I think I'm going to facefloor a few times... If not, maybe the competition is just so insane that it's not even worth staying here anymore.
There's nowhere else I can do my languages in Singapore, and actually get a degree for it. What do you want me to do? A JLPT or whatever can't just suffice because, oh, the world now needs people with degrees to be able to work y'know, or else they'll just look down on you just because you don't have a degree. (This is in no way to insult anyone who doesn't have a degree, but I'm just saying that this is what newspaper articles have been saying all along: to get a decent life, you need a degree. That's at least, applicable in my area.) I dunno about other countries or your area, but as far as I know, I'd need a degree to get a decent start-out salary of at least 2000 SGD with most companies. Without that, it's just going to be much tougher.
Believe it or not, there's nowhere else in Singapore where you can obtain a degree for Japanese (and other languages, but I could be wrong), except NUS. One source. And others entering into the exact same faculty with different goals on different subject areas are most likely going to be your competition. ...Ridiculous!
You see my desperation? You see that loss in faith for language-wise education here in Singapore? I don't think I'm going to weep for it any time, but at least I'm going to bare my teeth at them for the moment. It makes me feel like language over here isn't even treated seriously as a subject - or heck, even as a form of study. And this kind of situation needs remedying. And NUS-Yale possibly opens only during 2013? HAH! How long did it take to realize that we needed this school possibly about 5 years before already?
Other than that, sorry, I haven't been able to keep up with entries from you guys partially because I did go away for a short while. I also had nothing interesting to post...
In the midst of it, though, I started an RP account for the fun of it for Nick, called i_amright which is a horrible pun on him. xD;; I...think I'm going to try and app for liliesxinxbloom's comm reverie_lane when I can. C'MON I WANT TO FIND AN EDGEY. ;w; WHOM I CAN BE FLIRTY AND ROMANTIC WITH!
