...What. And it does not help I am playing Kara no Kyoukai's sad-ish OSTs which generated even more sadness. Damn, Kajiura Yuki's songs sure pop up at the right times. Anyway, onto some spoilers and stuff...
I mean, just what is with this ending, CLAMP?! First off.
THE DAMN EGG. When the hell are we going to get our conclusion for this? I'm just glad Doumeki hadn't absentmindedly given the egg to Watanuki so that he could fry an omelet. If he did, I wouldn't know if I should whoop or not. yay they fry their own babies!
Next, why do we not know about Kohane and Himawari? (Read ETA section. I finally figured out why. *facepalms*) It's not a proper conclusion. Srsly, it's not. As much as I loved the DouWata (with the descendant) deserved at the end, with whiskey and all, and this time Shizuka's descendant getting the stuff himself instead of being lazy...Just, where are our girls?! Kohane probably okay because Doumeki still sees her, so we get it that she'll be doing fine. But Himawari? This makes me worried. ;~;
Her smile. HER SMILE. Look at this. Look at this endearing, reassuring smile. It almost made me cry so hard.

I'm going to miss this line so much. So so much.
Also, the significance of the bird cage? Well, there isn't much, I believe. It's more like straightforward one where Yuuko lets the bird out, significant of Watanuki gaining his freedom. Heh. But, poor Watanuki. I almost got some WataYuu vibes at the end. Good job CLAMP. It was strong.
...lastly, I AM HAPPY WITH MORE DOMESTIC!FAMILY!WATANUKI X DOUMEKI DRINKING SCENE AGAIN. But, really, men are men. They just keep drinking every damn time they see each other. :O
ETA: I JUST REALIZED I READ THE CHAPTER WRONG. Or rather, I read it too quickly! :O Watanuki says, "Great great grandfather."
......WHAT. So. Doumeki Shizuka died and everyone did except for Watanuki. Just. *facepalms* I'm never going to get over this. As some others have said, FANFICTION, FIX THIS PLZ.
