I am shocked. I'm shocked that just about every single (California isn't final yet) state passed the ban on gay marriage. Seriously. What the fuck. Every single time I heard the phrase "I want to preserve the idea of marriage" I should have written down who said it so I could go back and punch all of them now. Fucking assholes. That shit had NO fucking business being on any ballots. I'm seriously upset and angry that this happened. It's as big a deal to me (and should be to everybody else) as Obama winning.
Why, America? Don't get me wrong, I am elated that Obama won. I am beyond excited to see what this dude does for education. He said all the right things during his campaign with regards to this topic and now has the congressional backing to really make a change on that front. I think that January 20 will be the start of a new era in education in this country. I think that the thought of "the government is trying to keep people stupid" will go away at least a little bit. I know that the war policies will not change very much and there will be many problems ignored and possibly made worse. I truly believe, though, that if you start by fixing education, the rest will follow. I'm totally on board with a long term plan of fixing things. Why, though, when America does something so incredible as to elect such a forward thinking individual as Obama, does America take 5 steps backward by banning gay marriage?
In discussing this with my brother he pointed out that, likely, the increased minority vote was responsible for alllllll of the gay marriage bans passing, as they have never been this successfull in the past and there hasn't ever been this high of a turnout for minority voters. I agree with him, i suppose. In the end, I would rather have this then have those voters not vote and have McCain win. It's fucking moronic that it's a matter of one or the other, though.
Damn you, America. You are a fucking asshole.
obama,
america is a fucking asshole,
gay marriage bans
