Special sneak peek!

I have a new meme from doriana186. Comment saying "I am the pumpkin queen/king of Midgar" and I'll give you a letter (of the alphabet). Then you have to list 10 people/places/things you love that begin with that letter. Afterwards, post it on your journal and fill out letters of your own.

Doriana gave me F for FFVII, and I'm very proud that I didn't cheat and just list ten of the Final Fantasies I liked. It was harder than I though it might be.

1. Final Fantasy - most of them. Stupid XI and probably XIV. I don't do well with online or multi-player type things.
2. Fuzzy socks and fuzzy blankets and fuzzy things in general.
3. Fall. I love the weather, although it makes me sad because it means that winter's coming. Calgary's notorious for getting about two days of fall weather, then we go straight into blizzards and minus thirty. I'm loving the fall weather here though.
4. Fudge, especially maple fudge... *drool* Oh and I had this fantastic cookies and cream one once, and chocolate with chunks of mint candy and now I've just realised that I've never seen fudge here. :(
5. Fanfic.
6. Free things, especially food. I love free meals. Although useless free things annoy me, because they take up space and never get used, but you can't say no because it's free.
7. Fridays. My Japanese teacher on Fridays is awesome and we have so much fun. And Friday also meant that it's the weekend soon. Yay!
8. Flogging Molly. Awesome band, I love them.
9. Flag folding. I think it's neat how so many countries have their own special way of folding flags (and many don't, which is also interesting). Who would have thought there were so many ways to fold up a rectangular piece of fabric?
10. Fishing as long as I don't actually catch a fish. I go for the boat rides, the booze (not safe, don't try it at home), and the playing with the fishing rod and looking like a fisherman. The paddleboat incident put me off catching fish forever though. That and the "You catch it, you clean it" rule.

I had a wonderful birthday, despite it being a Thursday and having Genki Sensei as my teacher. I didn't even cry about being old, which is pretty impressive for me. The day before, the other westerner, Jessica and I ordered a Snoopy ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins with minimal trauma. It helped that one of our friends from the dorm found us randomly and helped us order. I also bought a new watch for myself and Jessica wrapped it and gave it to me in the morning, which I thought was rather sweet. A group of us went out for drinks at an izakaya near the dorm and got thoroughly drunk. Much fun was had, although walking into the izakaya and having everyone there shout happy birthday was a little unnerving. One of the girls who was coming later has a friend who works there and so she called ahead to say we were coming and that it was my birthday. Still, unnerving when you're not expecting it.

I wore the most amazing skirt! Jessica lent it to me and it's this awesome long gothy, lacey, black, liar of a skirt. But it told the most wonderful lie! It said I have hips! Actual hips that could like give birth or something! It was pretty amazing. I've decided I either need to find one like it or steal it off her.

In other news, I spent like three weeks downloading the live action Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and went to finally watch it last night... it was subtitled in German. *sigh* I guess it's good to know that there are sub groups out there doing other languages, but c'mon, can't you label it? Now I'm all disappointed because Corner Gas is taking forever to download and I have nothing to watch. Ooh, except Hana Kimi, I forgot about that. I had tried watching it before and got about halfway through the first episode before my mind was too boggled to go on. I've gotten further now, and it's actually pretty good. Really silly... but good.

On the writing front, I'm ashamed to say that I've still been avoiding PoW like the plague, but I have started writing other stuff again. So I have a teeny teaser of my as of yet unnamed story for you. (I've learned my lesson about jumping the gun with names.) I don't want to spoil anything, so it really is tiny, but I hope you enjoy it. There are no warnings.

"Was - I hate to ask it, but was Cloud doing well in the Cadet Program?"

Zack hesitated a moment before replying. "No... It's not that he didn't work hard or wasn't cut out for it; I think he's just a late bloomer. But yeah, he was struggling. When I went to pick up his locker, everyone assumed that he had dropped out. I didn't even need to tell them anything."

Sephiroth nodded, his suspicions confirmed. "I think that those are the ones they pick. The ones nobody will miss or care that they're gone."

"I'd miss him. And I'd care."

"I know... Zack, do me a favour and keep an eye on the other strugglers. Ask your friends to help out, if you think they can be discreet. I want to put a stop to this, but I want to figure out how to fix Cloud first."

Zack nodded his agreement. "I'll do that. I know a few guys who'll help. So what are we going to do about Cloud?"

"I'm not sure, I -" Sephiroth paused as he heard a noise from the bedroom, followed by soft footsteps down the hallway. Cloud appeared at the entrance to the living room and they both stood.

"What's up, Cloud?" Zack asked.

Dun dun dunnnnn...

So that's that. PoW isn't forgotten, just waiting for the muses to come back. Writing it constantly for nine months may have caused a wee bit of burnout.

And just because...
