Barrett and I attended a wedding on Saturday, and it kind of threw me off of my posting groove. It was our first Catholic wedding to attend and *ahem* hopefully our last. Don't get me wrong, it was a beautiful wedding. However, I have never been more uncomfortable in a church. There were just so many small things in the ceremony that I did not automatically know, like when to respond to the preacher, when to kneel, etc. They sang songs I had never heard, recited verses from biblical passages I have never heard of (you better believe I googled the book of Tobit when I got home) and communion was awkward as I didn't know what to do. Really, I felt out of place the whole time. I was so nervous that by the end of the one hour ceremony I was drenched in sweat.
Still, I am glad I experienced it. If anything it gave me a perspective on how someone who has never been to church might feel when they walk into a service for the first time. Plus I found several of the Catholic traditions really neat. I really liked how they stressed the idea of becoming one before God as well as how Zach and Katie had their first communion as a married couple at their wedding.

Anyway, after the wedding we headed home to get back to work on our lovely coffee table. At this point it had one coat of primer and two coats of paint on it. We were ready to sand off edges and let that lovely wood show through.

Look at how beautiful the wood showing through looks.

After that Barrett and I put the first layer of glaze on. We had to move the coffee table into the living room to do this, as the glaze was drying too fast. We had no time to manipulate it outside in the dry heat.
The first layer of glaze just isn't enough, and we plan on doing a few more until our coffee table looks like
this,
this or somewhat similar. Our glaze obviously has a lot more brown in it than we were expecting. Still, I think it will look amazing when we're all done.
After that we just plan on waxing the table or putting some polyurethane on it... something to protect the paint.
Since then, we've started on the television table... See:
