my take on Katrina.
its been a week.. and ive waited it out before posting anything with my reaction to this horrible event, but the time has come, i can no longer just not talk about it. im angry. very very very angry. so angry that.. angry just isnt the word anymore. horrified,disgusted.. just.. generally sick to my stomach over it. Here we have.. the state RIGHT next to us.. and one of Americas biggest cities and landmarks.. New Orleans.. totally destroyed by a NATURAL disaster..and OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TAKES 4 FUCKING DAYS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!! When a group from Montreal, Canada gets there TWO DAYS before our government is there, IT is a BIG fucking problem. Tell me. how it is.. that we can ship out thousands of soliders a day/week/month for the past 5 years to the OTHER SIDE of the damn world.. but we cant help people in our own DAMN COUNTRY who are drowning and dieing of hunger!? We actually acted FASTER for the Tsunami then for Hurrican Katrina. and this was in our fucking FRONT YARD! i just.. i just cant even think about it. it makes my head spin. there arent enough GOOD excuses to build a fucking raft on and shove it up Bushes ass. Now on the flip side. Im very happy with the amount of support that everyday people are putting out there. I know several people who have left everything, to go help.. and trust me it has CROSSED my mind more then twice a day. In fact.. Im seriously thinking Im gonna go out to Lousianna this weekend. I work friday night.. but then im off til Monday. By then ill have enough money for gas and food for a few days. On Myspace they are constantly running an advertisement for offering a space to the refugees of this disaster.. and i asked my mom.. she shot me down.. but it i had my own apartment.. i would have as many people as i could safely fit in there. I cant even count the amount of times my family has vacationed in New Orleans or Mississippi. These people arent strangers.. they are everyday families who have lost everything. Last night at work one of our servers had a family that was from La. they had decided they were gonna have to rebuild their lives here because they had lost everything they owned. They had just come in from Kohls tryin to buy some clothes so thier kids would have something to wear when they start thier new schools.. and they were eating dinner. He said that there only request was that he bring them too drinks strong enough for them to actually get a full nights rest. i cried. We spend our time.. talking about the people in far away lands and how we are so lucky that we have such a wealthy wonderful country and blah blah.. DO YOU SEE NOW HOW EASY IT IS TO BECOME THAT COUNTRY? how one day you can have it all.. three cars, a nice house, good schools and all the money you need.. and the next its gone?!. Material is nothing. Its your connects w. your friends, your family.. and just generousity that should be the MOST, MOST important thing in the world to you. cause at the end of the day.. it doesnt matter where you live, what city, a mansion or a shack, its who surrounds you.
im gonna leave on that note.. and keep my thought of our government to myself, cause in my own opinion.. we re-elected him. i may not have voted for him.. but enough of my fellow friends or family did.. so.. this is what we got for our vote, and i hope it makes us wiser when we see the faces of those whos bodies are being found all over the coast because they starved to death.. because the Richest country in the world couldnt find the time to focus on their homefront. Things happen for a reason people.
