The noonday sun was unrelenting; air carried with it a prolonged dry spell and childhood memories. The streets of Seoul were still how Junmyeon remembered them to be. A little newer, but just as lively. The summer heat tempted him to take off his jacket but he didn’t. While it wasn’t odd to see a man wearing a dress suit walking around, he still couldn’t help but feel out of place. He bought a drink to cool down. It didn’t help. When he’s done, he spent a good ten minutes crunching ice and the cold filled his stomach as he followed the crowd, steps small and slow for he was in no hurry. He had been told to think of this as a vacation. “There’s only so much you can do,” Amber told him, “You’re going to be the headmaster, gosh, not a student. Stop worrying, so cool it. Take a break and...go mountain-climbing or something." Under the pressure of his closest a friends, he relented. This trip wasn't just a vacation, of course. Before being forced to 'take a break', Junmyeon had been too preoccupied with the final details, one being how they could go about recruiting both teachers and students. He wasn't greedy, but he was ambitious. The school was going to be a second (for some, first) home where the students could be taught what the humans would never teach them, and they could live with people were just like them. People who understood understood what they had gone through, what they were going through, and what they would eventually go through.

The academy won't simply be an institution serving to educate. Junmyeon wanted it to be a place where love could be found.

Just then, Junmyeon felt a familiar light-headedness coming over him. A flash of movement in his peripheral vision snagged his attention, pushing away thoughts of newly updated floor plans and better ways of securing the academy. Excitement prickled on both sides of his skin and he’s hooked. He was in close proximity with an alpha level mutant. Abandoning his now-empty cup, he concentrated on projecting his power until he’s got just about the whole stretch of the street and the next covered. It didn’t take long for him to locate where the mutant was.

There he was.

Junmyeon caught a glimpse of a hand pocketing a wallet which didn’t belong - super speed - before the pickpocket disappeared from his line of vision. He had squeezed his way through a group of schoolgirls yabbering about their weekend plans.

Soon, Junmyeon was hot on his heels. He rounded the corner, reached the traffic junction, and almost lost the trail. The mutant knew that he was being followed. Junmyeon didn’t know when or why he broke out into a run but when he did, the mutant caught on too. It became a pursuit. Faces flashed past as Junmyeon tried mentally reaching out to grab onto the tendrils of thoughts - they stemmed from fear. Succeeding, he found them easy to read. He wanted to give the mutant assurance that he had nothing to fear, but from experience, he knew that sneaking into someone’s head would...startle them a little. A lot. He sighed and turned right instead of left, going into an alleyway which cut straight into the destination the mutant had in mind. Junmyeon felt a sliver of triumph before the mutant realized that Junmyeon knew the streets just as well as he did.

“Hello there,” Junmyeon called out, smiling, both hands raised. “You’re pretty fast, aren’t you?”

The mutant, now that Junmyeon was able to get a good look at his face, was sullen-faced and pretty: bleached blonde hair mostly hidden by his cap and eyes that met Junmyeon’s sharply. In response to Junmyeon’s words, he grunted, unimpressed. “What do you want?”

“Offer you a job.”

The man’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “Bullshit.”

“I mean it.” Still smiling. “I promise.”

The man scoffed, “That means nothing to me. You can promise me anything and still be lying. Everyone I know is a good liar.”

Junmyeon laughed, “I can prove that I’m not lying”

“Prove it then.”

“Alright. Now...this is gonna be a little ticklish at first.”

Before the boy could say anything else, Junmyeon had plucked several memories of his and planted in the mutant’s. He watched the man’s eyes widen in disbelief, then silence as Junmyeon slowly showed him all that there was to know. The academy. The vision Junmyeon had for the future. The job proposal.

“Wow, that’s something.” The man shook his head to rid himself of a slight headache, a side-effect. “My name’s Lu Han.” Something told him that Junmyeon didn’t need him to tell him to know that. “In that last memory you showed me...someone called you Professor Kim?”

“It is” Junmyeon replied, a wider smile playing on his lips. “Just call me Junmyeon.”

“Spare me the honorifics too, won’t you?” A pause. “You want me to join you.”

It wasn’t a question. Junmyeon nodded. “That I do.”

“Why me?” Lu Han wasn’t stupid, but years spent hiding from his family, the rebels, and the Chinese governments have taught him to be cautious, even if the other guy was a fellow mutant. Lu Han wasn’t stupid. There was no way Lu Han could say ‘no’ to a steady income, a safe place where he can stay, and a proper motivation to keep on living. It was a matter of convincing him to utter the ‘yes’ that he was already thinking. Junmyeon stared at Lu Han for a long while, lost in his thoughts, lost in the discovery that Lu Han’s eyes danced with something he lacked. He wished he could feel whatever it was that Lu Han was feeling. He could tap on it, but it wouldn’t make it the least bit genuine for him.

“Why not?” Junmyeon saw no point in beating about the bush any further. “You’re a good person. Don’t say that you aren’t. You’re well trained - ”

“Self-trained,” Lu Han corrected.

“Well-trained nonetheless,” Junmyeon said. “You’ll be able to teach kids from all around the world all that there is to know.”

“You seem to have overestimated my powers and underestimated your own, Professor.” Lu Han grinned. He liked the taste of the last word in his mouth, “You can teach them a great deal more.”

“I can,” Junmyeon shook his head, “But I’m by no means enough.” He thought about it and laughs at the absurdity of the idea of taking this up alone. “I need more help, that’s for sure, and I’m willing to go down on all fours to ask for it.”

“You think I can help you, then?” Lu Han sounded doubtful. But not unwilling.

“Yes,” Junmyeon said firmly. “Will you?”

“But you don’t even know anything about me.”

“That’s alright.” Junmyeon smiled, reaching out a hand for Lu Han. To seal the deal. Lu Han took it. The warmth they felt wasn’t just the sun beating down between the shadows. There was more to this gesture than what appeared to be. “I don’t think I need to.”
